karma yoga insomnia

March 4th, 2005

Earlier yesterday I had a very nice hour-long yoga routine. Now it’s confession time. Earlier in the week I had somehow pulled a muscle. The left pectoral muscles suffered from sudden pain and I felt it was bad enough that I had to stop doing yoga for a few days.

So, yesterday I was able to do yoga and it was really, really nice to get back into the swing of things. But now I’m suffering from insomnia and it just seems odd. When I was on a roll with the yoga I would sleep pretty early and I would have a lot of energy during the day.

Anyways, I mainly did a series of sun salutations, as gentle and as smooth as possible, and I pretty much felt very good. I did the headstand, spinal twists, standing poses… but skipped the crow posture. During corpse pose I felt I was drifting in and out of sleep, I was so relaxed (and possible have been quite tired lately).

But still, as good as that yoga routine felt, I somehow feel out-of-sorts. Like, last month I was doing great. And suddenly when I introduced running back into my fitness regimen I suddenly had these problems and it’s been hard getting back to that balance I had been experiencing for many months, actually.

So, I’m just trying to find that balance again and hopefully in a few days I’ll be back to normal… but I will have to stop the running again and do yoga exclusively until that balance is once again achieved.

Yoga is truly about body, mind and spirit as they say. It’s all about trying to achieve harmony through all aspects of one’s being.
