paying it forward
March 26th, 2005So, yesterday I was at Borders Books & Music and I ordered a couple of decaffeinated beverages from the Café. I didn’t have any cash with me so I used my brand new debit card. The barrista made the drinks first and when it was time to pay up, my debit card didn’t work! It was so embarrassing.
Anyway, the barrista was nice and said, “no problem, just get in touch with your bank to get it fixed”. So I tried calling my bank and for some odd reason my cellphone couldn’t connect. Luckily, my bank was 10 minutes away and so I went there and they manually set a new password and made sure it was activated.
I went back to Borders and told the barrista my new card was working now. But she told me that a lady who was waiting in line behind me (when I first ordered my drinks) had paid for them!
The barrista told me that the lady just said, “just tell him to do something nice for someone else one day”.
I thought that was one of the nicest things anyone had ever done for me… coming from a complete stranger, and I was thinking about that movie, Pay It Forward. So now I just need to pay it forward and help someone else in need.

I am so glad you made it home safely from Vegas, and how nice your Borders payment was paid for you. Very nice!!! I will check your gig page and Diane and I will make it down there soon to see you again.

it’s the little things that count ;) isn’t it nice to have experiences like that to know that there are still nice people in the world? :P

Pat: thanks, my friend. and congrats on the job offer.
Tyler: so true. the experience brings me hope for the world, and made me more forgiving in regards to the rather negative experiences in my previous entry.
