tenderly

I’ve been really getting into the old classic standard, “Tenderly”. Such beautiful chord changes, but I’m trying to work out alternate voicings and chord structures.

Tenderly

The evening breeze
caressed the trees, tenderly

The trembling trees
embraced the breeze, tenderly

Then you and I
came wandering by
And lost in a sigh, were we

The shore was kissed
by sea and mist, tenderly

I can’t forget
how two hearts met, breathlessly

Your arms opened wide
and closed me inside
You took my lips
you took my love, so tenderly

This has got to be one of the most endearing, heartfelt songs I’ve ever played. I could just play it over and over again. And to think I used to hate this song and thought it was simply boring.

that happens to me, too… i’ll begin learning a song, or start listening to a new song.. and ignore because i think it’s boring or just not likeable enough.. but later i learn to love it very muchly. :)

i’m reminded of my teen years, playing in my high school band director’s family band, and it’s toward the end of the evening and “Tenderly” is being performed. At that time I was into Rock, so I’d be nodding off behind the drums during this song, my head tilting back… falling asleep to the song! :)
