police cars, ambulances, fire trucks, oh my

“Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. The fearful are caught as often as the bold.” —Helen Keller.
So, suddenly we heard sirens coming toward our neighborhood, and then there was a police helicopter above us flashing a bright beam of light all around, flooding our home once or twice with this intense white light.
I look right outside my living room window and we see several cars, stopped by the police, and some young people being questioned. More and more police cars come speeding into the neighborhood with sirens blasting away, beams of light flashing everywhere as if looking for an escaped convict.
I noticed four police cars speeding quickly up our street doing probably 50 miles an hour in a 25 mile an hour residential zone. I noticed they had formed some sort of blockade, as if preventing certain cars from escaping.
A fire truck moves into position, its emergency lights flashing. And then an ambulance pulls in and heads quickly up the street. I see young adults (college students?) walking around aimlessly. And neighbors had to walk to their homes, the police made them leave their cars outside this blockade, at the entrance of our neighborhood which has no other way in.
Many people were being questioned outside our house. And one girl knocked on our door asking us if she could use our bathroom. We were reluctant at first because we still were rather confused about what was going on. An older woman who was escorting the young lady had said it was okay. They were questioning people and they were sitting on the curb.
So, opening my window I overheard people talking about someone getting stabbed, and that this party had gotten out of hand and there was a big fight.
Anyways, we live in a very quiet community, mostly families. So, this incident was definitely out-of-the-ordinary, and it was the first time something like this had ever happened in our neighborhood.
After a while, things started settling down. And I got back to watching “The Aviator”, still somewhat shell-shocked, however, from the experience.

it seems like it was a very surreal experience … intense but almost like an intermission of the film (not meaning to make light of the evenings events) …
no that’s cool. it was exactly what you described… it was a definite intermission from the movie. :)
wow. did it make the news at all?
things like that don’t really surprise me anymore since i live next to a busy street. i have to admit, i get curious. i like to watch the aftermaths of bad car accidents and to watch policemen give drunk drivers those walk-in-a-straight-line tests.
denise: as far as i know, it didn’t make the news.
i’ve never seen that movie! but i’m a little anti leo… i just don’t like him for some reason. :-P
got your email and you know what? you’re right. so don’t worry. annie’s back in the blogging world. :-D
scary stuff. last time there was a stabbing in my town was 3 years ago, and it was a drunken fight in a downtown bar. having it happen so close by is so surreal — you’d think this kind of thing wouldn’t happen in MY town, on MY street… but often it does. times like that, i wish i lived like a hermit, away from people. =P
annie: i’m a little anti leo too. i didn’t rent the DVD, but i’d been meaning to see the movie, which was good i thought, but not on my top 10 list. ;)
booyahman: i’ve felt the same way. i need to be in seclusion to meditate and do yoga. haha… ;)
Sounds like an exciting night you had there Carlos!
What did you think of the movie btw?
I too am a lil anti Leo and thought the movie was too long but Cate Blanchett was awesome!
Key: i thought “The Aviator” was a good movie. Cate Blanchett was awesome as usual!
