memoirs of a geisha
January 12th, 2006
A very good friend of mine sent me an “early” birthday present… The Music from Memoirs of a Geisha. Ah, thank you so very much!
I do love Itzak Perlman’s violin work on “memoirs”, and have other past recordings of his work. Yo-Yo Ma is the ultimate cellist, and his playing is so expressive and has so much emotion. I could listen to the music from “memoirs” for days!
And John Williams’ score… he simply amazes me how prolific he has been over the decades, and having been the composer of such important films of our generation. His music in “memoirs” is brilliant as usual.
The actual movie, “Memoirs of a Geisha”, I thought was very well done. Great performances by Ziyi Zhang and Gong Li, and of course Michelle Yeoh and Ken Watanabe. The cinematography was colourful and picturesque, especially the one scene where the Geisha throws the handkerchief into the wind high atop a mountain overlooking the ocean… beautiful.

sorry to hear you can’t go to europe. but that would be cool if you can go to cali, and hopefully there will be a good show that you could see me in… instead of the bistro gigs where i perform mostly as background music… ambience.
