odds and ends

Just some notes on what’s been going on with me. January went by pretty quickly, and I just need to focus my energies in February!

. . . .

1. Surprisingly, January was a busy month as far as gigs go. “Traditionally” it’s been the slowest month of the year… so, glad it was busy.

2. I’m so relieved that my wife and I did out taxes early again this year. It’s not a major task, but it does take a bit of work to prepare mine since I’m self-employed… glad that’s over with.

3. February looks promising as far as gigs are concerned. Not too many weddings and corporate events coming up in the next few months though… that’s kind of scary.

4. Tiffany at The Bistro recommended a Thai vegan restaurant she’d gone to in L.A. Coincidentally, my wife and I had been dining out at a Thai restaurant (one of the few places I can actually get a very good vegan meal), and I love their curry dishes… yellow, green and red curry… yum!

5. Finally secured our tickets to the Keith Jarrett concert in San Francisco. Booked the plane tickets, reserved the hotel and the rental car. Can’t wait until March 18th comes along…

6. With my vegan diet I’d been sensitive to the cold weather here in San Diego. I don’t know how I would survive if I live in, say, Alaska! Even though I bundle up in layers, I still feel cold outside… the raw vegan diet is just too hard for me during the Winter months… though, I still firmly believe eating raw is extremely health and beneficial… so, it might have to just be more of a seasonal emphasis… like, during Spring, Summer and early Fall months.

7. I’ve been really terrible with the yoga regimen lately… I’ve been skipping days here and there, getting out of sync… I did a yoga routine yesterday, and I hope I can do a nice long routine later on today. Basically, I just need to get back into a good, daily routine again.

8. I’ve been obsessing over movies lately… namely, those of the “romantic comedy”, “chick flick” variety… well, don’t laugh, but I’m sure it’s just a phase I’m going through… as you’ve probably read in my previous post… No. 1 obsession is “Serendipity” right now… and recent movies watched were: You’ve Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle, Love Actually, and When Harry Met Sally…

9. The Keith Jarrett documentary finally arrived in the mail the other day. I’m amazed! I very good DVD on the amazing career of jazz/classical pianist Keith Jarrett! Included is a lengthy interview with him, interspersed with archival footage and pieces from the jazz trio… he’s very picky with pianos, and there was one part just before a concert where he was chosing between two concert grands… selected one, then after testing it out one last time, decided to go with the other piano.

10. Okay, I need to redo parts of this site and get my act together… just minor things. And redo and improve things at Rice Bowl Journals.

11. I need to get back into teaching drums (and possibly piano). Hopefully, I can get a good vibe/routine going with regards to giving private lessons.

12. The gigs at the new venue, Jack’s in La Jolla, seem to be going well… a very noisy, busy and crowded place. I’m not used to all the commotion, but I guess that’s a good thing. I’ve been getting headaches after the gigs. But I’m sure I’ll getting used to it. I guess I was accustomed to the quieter atmosphere of Bistro 221. I guess I get the best of both worlds now.

  • oh, yes... i've been eating brown rice and hot vegetable soup! :o)

unfortunately i've gained a bit of weight, but i suppose it's a natural tendency during the winter months. :o(

i'm doing yoga, but i need to work out more.
  • you know to keep you warm maybe you should eat a little brown rice? that's good for you and it's cook... which isn't raw but will keep you warm :)
  • as far as the raw vegan diet? yes, no cooking at all. i haven't bought a dehydrater yet (which will cook/heat foods up to 115 degrees farhenheit only.

so, raw food for me are salads, fruits and vegetables, raw nuts and seeds. but now i've been going to vegan restaurants that serve raw foods, like raw vegan tacos!

i have watched a few audrey hepburn movies, like roman holiday, breakfast at tiffany's and the musical my fair lady.

you'll have to see when harry met sally. i used to not like it for some reason, then suddenly i really like this movie... one of my all-time romantic favorites... will have to make a current list of fave movies...
  • hehe carlos! girl flicks. you should watch audrey hepburn movies. now that's a treat ;) i haven't seen harry met sally but i've seen all the other ones you listed and they are GREAT.

yeah you need something more for winter months and you don't want to get sick. so with your raw diet you don't cook anything? or is it that you just don't cook for very long? i'm very interested. i'm not even veg-tarian but i do eat meat less and less. i don't think i can give it up all the way but i cut it out from 2/3 meals a day. :) good start right?

*sigh* sorry that was a lot i just wrote but i hope you're well!
