yahoo! at the hotel del
March 4th, 2006So, last night I played a trio gig at the Hotel Del Coronado in the Coronet Room. It was a corporate function and we performed for none other than employees of Yahoo!
I never saw so many geeks in one room… hmm… lots of smart looking people… many Asians. We played mostly standards, and I was wondering if this was the right music for them… but, we were background music. We got this gig through an agency.
A female vocalist I sometimes gig with was downstairs in the lounge doing a duo gig with her husband on guitar. They had a drum machine. And a bass player I know was also with another popular local band performing in the Grand Ballroom.
It was a pretty interesting night, but it rained on the way to the gig, and was quite cold on the drive back home.

That’s a great hotel, that’s for sure! My grandmother used to play her violin for vaudeville shows there! A few years ago we had a sales meeting there, but my room was in the “new” part, not the historic part.

That is cool that your grandmother performed violin there. It really is a classy place, even today!
