san francisco, without a hotel room
March 18th, 2006We were going to check into The Inn at the Opera, just a block away from the War Memorial Opera House, where pianist Keith Jarrett is to give his solo piano concert tomorrow.
We called ahead to tell them we were coming, and to our surprise we found out we didn’t have a reservation! But we had booked hotel, rental car and plane tickets through Expedia.com and we found out we didn’t have a hotel room!
After more than two hours in which my wife had to go through three different Expedia.com representatives, then finally with a supervisor, we were able to secure reservations at the Marriott Hotel, much better than The Inn at the Opera per quality, but more than a mile from the Opera House.
My wife is resting, stressed from having to yell at incompetent people… and wasting a precious 2 plus hours of our weekend getaway when we could’ve been doing something fun and not get stressed out.
So, what we hoped for: Being one block away from the Opera House… didn’t happen…
At least we have free internet access here at the hotel room. We took out some Chinese food from our favorite Chinese Restaurant here. I got the Braised Eggplant and Tofu in Plum Sauce (vegan), which made up for the snafu with the hotel reservations….
More later…. we’re going to visit our Niece now, who’s an architect living in the city.

oh man, that sounds like a nightmare … did expedia give you anything in return for their mess-up? probably not, but they should have! anyway, hope the rest of your weekend went well ^^
