One Reason Why I Became A Vegan

March 24, 2006 by randomguru

A long time ago… I was visiting The Philippines, and there was a celebration. And they were going to kill a pig for this celebration.

Since I was a guest there, I guess they thought it would be a great idea for me to slit the pig’s throat to drain its blood. And upon much coaxing, they got me to the point where I was actually holding the butcher knife to the poor pig’s throat.

I couldn’t do it! The pig was squealing and crying the whole time!

And it was at this point in time that I questioned the whole process of killing animals for food. Just remembering this incident makes me want to cry buckets.

I just could never justify why some animals were killed for food and others were kept as pets. It just seemed like a hideous form of animal racism…

oh no, annie. your friends shouldn’t joke about cooking your pet guinea pigs for food. well, i guess they’re just joking around, but still…

glad to hear you don’t eat as much meat.

of course, i’ve done my share of meat eating in the past, being raised that way. but i’ve now stopped and am atoning for my sins. ;)

oh no. Is that what turned you into a vegetarian? Maybe if I saw a cow or chicken being butchered, I wouldn’t be tempted to eat beef or chicken either. I don’t eat goat or sheep because I witnessed a goat get slaughtered when I was like 5 or 6 years old and I could never forget that experience.

Grace: yes, pretty much that plus the need to cut down on animal products because it’s contributed to high blood pressure in the past.
