The Grand Canyon
April 13th, 2006The full set of grand canyon photos.
We took highway 180, which began for us in the northwestern section of Flagstaff, Arizona. Most of the road went through fairly mountainous areas. And at one point we stopped by the side of the road to take in the vistas. Humphreys Peak is something you can’t miss around Flagstaff. It’s the highest point in Arizona at 12,633 ft.
This photo of Humphreys Peak was taken just west of it. The trip from Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon was roughly 1.5 hours.
When I first caught my first real glimpse of the Grand Canyon, it was sort of strange. It didn’t look real at first… like a painting. And considering the ponderosa trees and dry chaparral seen on the way there, one is in for a bit of a surprise, because of the stark contrasts in terrain.
The Grand Canyon was so mesmerizing to me, one simply HAS to believe in God, because it had to have been made by Him. Nevertheless, everyone should agree that the Grand Canyon is something one must see in one’s lifetime.
We spent the whole afternoon hiking along the South Rim Trail, from Mather Point to Yavapai Point, and over to the El Tovar Hotel. I was actually surprised that much of the trail had no railing, and just a few feet away was a sheer drop of several hundred feet in some areas.
I was surprised to find a few people sitting over the edge! I mean, there are signs that say, people HAVE died here… so, I personally am NOT that courageous… or crazy!
Anyway, it took me a long, long time to get to this place in my journey to have viewed this amazing wonder firsthand, and I’m glad I finally did.

Gorgeous pictures. I should visit the Grand Canyon one day and see the actual thing instead of associating the GC with that one driving game.

Pat: Arizona is another world. It’s definitely a different experience! Right now we are in Scottsdale!
Tara: Yeah. You should visit. I should’ve been more prepared for some serious hiking, though. Next time… Now, I should play that game you played. ;o)

The Grand Canyon’s awe inspiring isn’t it? You can take countless panoramic shots and they still can’t capture its magnificance.
It is an entire Pacific Ocean and a good amount of $$ away from me at the moment. One day… for sure I’ll see it for myself. But hope I’ll not end up looking like an idiot with my entire body plastered along the rocky walls.
And thank you so much for picking a snippet from one of my post as a featured quote. Take care, and have a nice weekend! :]

Pari: you’re most welcome! :o)
you are right, that no matter how many panoramic shots i took (and i did take more than i posted so far… the photos didn’t capture the magnificence of witnessing the Grand Canyon in person.
it is breathtaking, yes. :o)
