Got this test from Sophia:

You Belong in Paris
You enjoy all that life has to offer, and you can appreciate the fine tastes and sites of Paris. You’re the perfect person to wander the streets of Paris aimlessly, enjoying architecture and a crepe.

a day for watching dvds

I was thrown out of college for cheating on the metaphysics exam; I looked into the soul of the boy sitting next to me.
—-Woody Allen

I totally rested yesterday. Mostly, I watched a few rented DVDs:

Fast Times At Ridgemont High (1982)
I haven’t watched this one in ages. And it did appear “dated” and “cheesy”, but it’s still a classic. It’s amazing that many of our generation’s actors got their start in this movie… Sean Penn (still so funny as Jeff Spicoli, the stoner surf dude), Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Rheinhold, Phoebe Cates (incredible eye candy who went topless), Anthony Edwards (stoner bud who went on to ER fame), Eric Stoltz (the other stoner bud), a very young Nicolas Cage, Forest Whitaker… and even Lana Clarkson as Mrs. Vargas (who tragically was shot dead in the mansion of producer Phil Spector a few years ago).

A Good Woman (2004)
Set in the 1930s in Amalfi, Italy, this is a decent movie starring Scarlet Johannsen, Helen Hunt, and Tom Wilkinson (Shakespeare in Love, Batman Begins)… somehow, this beautiful seaside town steals the show.

Failure To Launch (2006)
I’m not a big fan of either Matthew McConaughey or Sarah Jessica Parker, but this is a pretty good light-hearted romantic comedy, as long as you don’t take the movie too seriously. Still, I’m thinking of other movies that are quite better, like The Family Stone.

I tried watching Ben Hur last night, an all-time favorite classic that I own. And I fell asleep… too long (almost 4 hours)… forget it, I’ll try another time.

All in all, decent movies for a day of rest and relaxation.

how do you balance your life?

June 27, 2006 by randomguru · 5 Comments

Sometimes I can’t understand how other people seem to do so much, accomplish many things… whereas, I seem to struggle.

I mean, case in point… the last few weeks in my life. I was trying to do everything I’d set my heart on doing… working on Rice Bowl Journals, doing yoga, meditation, running, swimming in the ocean, gigging, trying to finish compiling my original compositions for downloading, practicing on drums and piano, trying to find time to garden, clean out my garage, etc….

Then my body broke down and I got sick.

How do “you” balance your life?

How do “you” succeed in doing all the things you set out to do… and do them?

At my age, I’m still trying to find the magic formula, that perfect balance…

I don’t consider myself an overly ambitious person, but I do want to accomplish things within the framework of a well balanced lifestyle.

Hmm…

recap on the weekend’s gigs

June 25, 2006 by randomguru · 5 Comments

On Friday, I did an out-of-town gig with Big Daddy Orchestra at the Kellogg House, on the campus of Cal Poly Technic University in Pomona. Didn’t get home until 2:30am.

On Saturday, did a private party with jazz/blues vocalist Nena Anderson, at a very awesomely designed house in Point Loma… fantastic modern architecture. The only problem was that I had to carry all my drums and things up two flights of stairs, as the house was situated on a hill.

On Sunday, did another gig with Big Daddy Orchestra (actually a quartet) at Jack’s in La Jolla, and got to play some real jazz… ah, thank God… finally.

And now I’m feeling beat up…
