ken dow and jersey boys

uptown boysI don’t know how I missed this local news article on bassist Ken Dow!

Well, I knew he was moving to New York City, and I knew he was going to be in “Jersey Boys”. The musical was playing here at the La Jolla Playhouse before it moved on to Broadway.

Anyway, Ken Dow, whom I’ve worked with in the big band (and other musical projects), got the opportunity of a lifetime to move to New York City to perform in the musical, “Jersey Boys“. And this musical just recently won 4 Tony Awards, one for “Best Musical”.

carlos at wedding receptionI didn’t even know that Ken has a brother Kevin who plays drums, and who also is performing in “Jersey Boys”. I never really asked, I guess. I’d just come to a gig and find out that Ken would be performing with us, and I’d say to myself, “man, this guy is an excellent bass player!”

Anyway, I’m happy for you, Ken! And your brother Kevin too. And it’s natural that the two of you form a tight rhythm section. Congratulations on being part of a winning Broadway Musical.

. . . .

THE PHOTOS

The “top photo” is one I took from my drums at a wedding reception in which my own band performed. Ken Dow is the guy in the foreground on upright bass.

The next photo below that is of Ken Dow on upright bass, and myself on drums, at the same wedding reception.

jersey boysLet me just say that he is a superbly gifted bassist, whether on upright or electric, and one of THE BEST bassists/musicians I’ve ever worked with.

Here is the Original Broadway Cast recording on CD with Ken Dow on bass and Kevin Dow on drums!
