cafe cerise

I played a nice jazz gig last night with Dave and Stellita at the Cafe Cerise! This is a very nice restaurant that serves European-style cuisine. They fed us dinner and I had a vegetarian entree that was awesome, “Smashed Potatoes and Sauteed Vegetables”… doesn’t seem like much from the title but the way it was prepared was exquisite.
Anyway, it was great to play a jazz gig downtown for a change. The “feel of the room” at Cafe Cerise makes this venue an exceptional venue for jazz. And wood floors really add to the great acoustics and ambience.
I hope to play here again… a really nice experience, and Stellita and Dave are awesome to work with. They can get any of the best drummers in town, so I am truly grateful they asked me. You can also catch Dave and Stellita at the Hotel Del Coronado on Saturday nights.

the son that drives a car
September 25, 2006 by randomguru · Leave a Comment
Today I took my oldest son to his first driving test at the DMV. My wife and I were so worried for him, and yesterday we spent more than an hour driving in the area where he was to have his test so that he’d be familiar with the traffic and the streets.
As I watched him and the lady “tester” walk toward the car to begin the test, I was so nervous for him that I had to pace outside. I had these visions that he’d fail and we’d have to retake the test and review what went wrong. And I’d have to comfort and console him and tell him that it’s okay.
Anyway, the driving test seemed to take approximately 15 minutes when they came back and parked in the “end of test” parking space, which was this fairly narrow (straight, and not angled) parking spot. He seem to do well.
When he and the lady got out of the car I watched their faces for a reaction. The lady seemed expressionless as if she’d done this a million times, so I couldn’t tell from her if he’d passed or not. Then I saw my son walk out and there was a pause, then a big smile on his face and I knew he’d pass the TEST!!! *woo hoo*
What a relief! I know this is one of those major hurdles a teen goes through toward becoming an independent adult. Inside I was weeping tears of joy, while outside I smiled yet seemed more reserved.
Looking at the test sheet, he’d scored an almost perfect score… well, minus 3 points. Looking back to when I took my driving test… I passed the first time but it was barely passing. Like, one point above failing, but the tester passed me and told me to practice a bit more on certain things.
I’m so happy and overwhelmed that my son finally got his license to drive. Well, the actual license will be mailed to him in a few weeks.
Anyway, now comes the moment when I’ll soon hear, “Dad, can I borrow the keys to the car?”
feeling a bit better

I’m feeling a bit better today. I still feel some aches and pains, but no more congestion or headaches. I took these thera-flu strips that helped.
Still not back to my 100% usual self, but I was able to move around a bit more than yesterday. And I took an afternoon nap which helped.
I was able to do a one hour yoga routine which helped greatly. Just need to rest up a bit more and not do any work…
