Lifehacker.com has a great article featuring Seven New Year’s Resolutions for your PC.
Yes, most of us are so focused with our own personal resolutions, that we forget about our poor PC.
#1 on the list is… you guessed it, backing up your computer:
1. Regularly back up your hard drive: If there’s one thing that nags most computer users in the “I-know-I-should-but-I-don’t” way, it’s hard drive back ups. We’ve all been there: as long as your hard drive keeps on spinning, it’s easy to ignore the whole back up thing - until the Grim Reaper comes knocking at your door in the form of the dreaded BSoD, that is.
Rather than fearing the reaper, just find yourself a cheap external hard drive (or install one yourself) and set up a simple, automated back up for your hard drive using SyncBack Freeware. For Mac users, check out SilverKeeper for simple, scheduled back ups.
So, this is my #1 resolution for my PC right now. I’d been pretty good about doing all the other maintenance stuff like keeping my desktop and files and folders organized. And I periodically defragment my hard drive. And I regularly have to do scans for viruses and spyware like everyone else.
So, lots to do in January other than making reservations and flight plans for my Mom and Dad’s 50th anniversary and getting my taxes ready (we always do ours early).
