Quantcast versus Alexa

I usually check Rice Bowl Journals‘ web rank on Alexa.com. But having recently explored Quantcast.com, I’ve noticed that they do offer other interesting statistics that Alexa doesn’t provide, at least not for FREE.

Here is the profile page for Rice Bowl Journals. And below are Quantcast features I haven’t seen on Alexa.

Quantcast features:

  1. Graphs for the following demographics: Gender, Age, Household Income, Ethnicity, Education, Estimated Household Income…
  2. Traffic overview - Visitors passing through -vs- Regulars and Addicts.
  3. The top sub-domains.
  4. Monthly unique U.S. visitors.
  5. Supposedly a more accurate web ranking system.

Like Alexa, Quantcast provides a rank which is 424,925 for Rice Bowl Journals versus 604,597 at Alexa. But I’m sure the higher ranking is because many websites haven’t been properly ranked on Quantcast yet.

Quantcast also provides a thumbnail of the site.

Since I’ve only just added the RBJ site today, Quantcast still posts a “Quantification in Progress” status for Rice Bowl Journals. And I added the special javascript code to RBJ earlier today, so it’ll be interesting to see what numbers come up say, tomorrow, or next week.

Interesting:

I’ll be following Quantcast’s stats for a while to see how they compare to Alexa’s and post an update later on, but so far I really like Quantcast’s features and simple interface.

Compete.com’s SnapShot service is the most sophisticated competitive metrics tool for comparing sites. The great thing with Quantcast is that they provide a central repository for local reporting, but their data on “non-tagged” sites is very rudimentary.

Compete’s data is based on a panel of over 2 million people and applies a rigorous normalization process.. Enjoy.
