damien rice in concert
March 6, 2007 by randomguru
Tickets went on sale on March 2nd for the Damien Rice concert in San Diego, and I think it’s already sold out. Ticketmaster keeps saying “tickets not available”. *sigh*
I didn’t see a concert date in Los Angeles, so that would be the main reason.
Tuscon still has available tickets. Also Oakland. I flew to San Francisco to catch my favorite pianist, Keith Jarrett. So, my wife and I would be willing to travel to Tuscon to see Damien Rice.
Wish me luck, as I try to score tickets to a Damien Rice concert. His website shows that a lot of his concerts have already sold out!

Keith Jarrett? Keith Jarrett!? OK. Now I’m turning green with envy. :-))
good luck on getting the tickets!
KC: yep, last year in march my wife and i saw Keith Jarrett in San Francisco… solo piano… at the War Memorial Opera House. he didn’t do the Koln Concert but he played something equally amazing….
Annalise: ironic how the google ads here say Damien Rice tickets… and i’m not supposed to click on them.
Aaaaaaaah! Now I have just officially withered and died from that envy!
KC: sorry you’ve got the envy… but i’m really glad you like Keith Jarrett so much. honestly, i don’t know anyone (even other professional musicians i work with) who are really into Keith Jarrett. and i was pleasantly surprised you are showcasing Keith Jarrett’s Koln Concert CD on your site. seriously, that is like my all-time favorite album. i even played the whole thing the other day. and usually i’m playing stuff from his other albums while i’m on the internet.
one thing i’d like to tell you about Keith Jarrett is his quirks and demands. like, the concert started late because the piano tuner was still working on tuning the piano. apparently he wasn’t satisfied with the upper notes on the piano. and during intermission, the piano tuner came out and started retuning the upper register again!
he’s pretty adament about people making noises and coughing during his performance. fortunately, there wasn’t a problem during the concert i attended. but, at one point he got up, walked over to the microphone and started talking about how he was not happy about the current administration.
he did a total of 5 encores, and the crowd was totally wild about his performances. it just kept building. the intensity.
his concert was somewhat similar to his recent live recording at Carnegie Hall almost two years ago. i have that one too, and you can tell that the crowd’s appreciation kept building up in that recording. he also did 4 or 5 encores in that live recording as well….
well, i’m a pretty serious Keith Jarrett fan and i usually check out this site pretty frequently. and hope to listen to his jazz trio someday with Gary Peacock and Jack DeJohnette! Jack DeJohnette is one of my favorite drummers.
if you want, i can turn you on to other favorite solo piano recordings of Keith Jarrett. i don’t have his entire catalogue yet, but i have most of his solo piano CDs.
but yes, that Koln Concert is probably my most favorite recording. if i could only have one CD it would be that one! :)
Thank you for the recollection. Gives me the shivers(thrill), just thinking about him playing live. I can imagine what it must have been like, reading your account. The intensity, the music, and his fussiness..:-)) But i wouldn’t have expected anything less, because he is such a genius with those improvisations!! :-))
I know it seems pretty silly, but his albums and music were the only ones that I never made copies of to give to friends and family. It seemed like a sacrilege to not pay for the music, because it was worth every yen…*grin* pathetically silly, huh? But, I finally caved in this year, and uploaded the first part of the Koln Concert on my blog:

Oh! and my prized possession is a Vinyl Record of the Koln Conert which i received from my husband, and which he in turn got from his grandfather. There is nothing like the sound of that record, even on a CD!!! *sigh*
