Keith Jarrett: The Art of Improvisation
March 23rd, 2007
This post is for KC and her husband, since they are going to see the Keith Jarrett Trio in Japan!
This DVD, in my humble opinion, is the holy grail for Keith Jarrett enthusiasts. Fans will get to know more about Keith than they ever dreamed. You’ll see where he lives, in the rural woods of New Jersey, you’ll see his barn that was converted into a studio with two concert grand pianos, a drumset, and other musical instruments. And you’ll see a LOT of archival footage from the early years to the present. And it also covers his classical music career, which includes footage of Keith and Chick Corea playing a Mozart Double Piano Concerto in Japan!
Unfortunately, there was never any video footage taken of the Koln Concert, but still, you Keith Jarrett and Jazz fans will love this!

I am not worthy! I am not worthy! :-))
Thank you very very much!
*KC who is now on her way, with husband in tow, to Tower Records in Shibuya to hunt for the DVD* Grin.
BTW, I have never heard the Koln Concert live, and since you mentioned you can play it, I’ve been very curious since. I tried to get the pianists I know, play me a few notes, and all of them never know the piece or refuse because they are so shy! *sigh!* So it’s also another thing i would like to ask to see someday… a footage of that live moment if nobody else will play it for me…:-)) I’ve hunted online already, but no go….

KC: Actually, I was working on Part IIb of the Koln Concert and learned just a little of it. But, I have figured out the encore, basically.
I’ll have to play it tonight at the gig to make sure I keep remembering it….
Anyway, I’ll bet the Tower Records in Shibuya is a very happenin’ place.

hee hee Carlos. It’s just that the Tower Records have 7 floors. 6 Floors of CDs and the 7th Floor is filled with English books and Magazines. So, if there is a CD one is looking for, the TR in Shibuya is sure to have it. It’s a very convenient one stop shop, hence me patronising it. :-)) Saves me the trouble of running all over the place, looking at other CD shops..:-D
*sigh* Someday, I will get to hear your gig, i hope! And Just imagine! Getting to actually see someone playing the Koln Concert for real!!! And then imagining you do that sing sing drum routine!! Oh! My wish list is piling!!! :-)
