someone is lactose intolerant…

Recently, someone emailed me to say that he really liked my site and how I used the Skimmed Milk theme, and naturally I was very flattered. He had a few questions as to how I accomplished certain things here, and I was happy to respond.

He submitted my link to the Wordpress Codex with this note:

I’ve been very impressed with some of the work that Carlos Rull has done with his site using the same theme.

And lo and behold, another person had this to say:

Carlos’ sites are equally terrible. Again, black on white, little use of color, ridiculous fixed width design… It’s just ugly, IMO.

Ouch… as hard as any criticism hurts, as long as it’s sincere and constructive then I am all ears. But this brings up the question. How do others feel about my site? What do you think?

I’m not asking for sympathy, and I would rather have honest, constructive feedback, rather than the harsh bashing this person above gave me… Maybe it’s time to change my layout/theme….

  • it's clean, easy to navigate, easy to read, and the content is good. it's nothing fancy, but it's certainly not ugly. anyway, as long as the content is good it doesn't really matter anyway :)

    I think your site looks fine. It's very soothing and easy to read. Maybe the other person is just jealous of your talent?

    If the critic of your site had said something constructive, i might have been more inclined to see his/her point of view, but his/her criticism (the words) just brings to mind the following quote:
    “When we judge or criticize another person, it says nothing about that person; it merely says something about our own need to be critical.”

    I am not offering my sympathy, i don't see a need for it. Your site is fine. Artistically Minimalistic, easy to browse through. The length of your posts and it's presentation I LOVE, the uncluttered look, neat invisible lines... If you choose to change your theme i would understand, we all tire of our looks sometimes, but let it be because like Pat says, "it should be whatever you want it to be". Don't let the funny guy bully you into change, otherwise your change in the long run might make you unhappy. The strength of his criticism woul be like Like Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882) says: "The strength of criticism lies in the weakness of the thing criticized".

    I think your site looks fine, it should be whatever you want it to be. I was going to say something not nice about "that poster" on the codex, but he may come back here and be offended, I won't do that. I remember why you picked this template, it was right after your blog got trashed and you went minimalistic...
