Just Some Notes on Father’s Day

  1. I really need to get organized. Seriously. I think I’m fairly organized… sometimes. But most of the time I’m not. Somehow, I really need to get more organized, starting with this site.
  2. Just got back from an awards luncheon in which my son won a scholarship award and he and other high school graduates were recognized for their achievements. I’m feeling proud of my son for his accomplishments.
  3. My missing ipod turned up in the dryer! That means that it also went through the washing machine. It is still working and I’m listening to it right now.
  4. It’s a beautiful Sunday afternoon in San Diego. The sky is blue and the warmth of the sun feels good.
  5. For most of this month, I’ve been performing Flamenco music with Jordano and Flamenco Nova. I definitely welcome the distinct change of musical genre. And the band seems to be growing in popularity and gigs. I hope this really takes off. I love Flamenco music.
  6. The big band… isn’t actually playing much big band nowadays. And I don’t get any great opportunities to perform drum solos in that band. No Sing Sing Sing. Which brings me back to the Flamenco group, in which I am given opportunities to do some focused drum solos, which in turn makes me feel like I’m really doing something special with my music career. And I am grateful.
  7. Lately, I’ve been getting into the traditional Sambas of Brazil, and hope to incorporate that into my drum solos somehow. I love traditional Samba.
  8. The other night, while coming home from the Flamenco gig, I heard on the jazz station “Samba De Janeiro” and they got into this long Batucada Samba groove. And the intensity and passion of the percussive patterns brought me to tears.

I always think I need to be more organized as well. Congratulations again to your son and your entire family. He’s lucky to have a supportive dad like you.
