the other side of society….

I did a great jazz gig yesterday afternoon at the clubhouse in the Fairbanks Ranch gated community (the north side).

It was great.

Residents of this oppulent community (this zip code is the 2nd richest in the country! don’t know who’s 1st) were able to hang out by the lake’s edge under a gorgeous, warm summer’s day and get all the free ice cream sundaes they wanted.

Well, being a musician, I’ve played in some of the richest communities in San Diego County.
I remember performing at a 3 story mansion on top of Point Loma that overlooked all of Downtown San Diego and the bay, with an indoor pool that showcased this amazing view through floor-to-ceiling bay windows!

I also performed for a vacuum heiress (maybe I shouldn’t mention the company name) in Palm Springs and their were 6 huge air-conditioned garage buildings that housed 110 collectible cars!

Anways, I never really performed in Fairbanks Ranch during the day. It had always been at night so I couldn’t really see how beautiful and enormous the homes were until I performed there yesterday in the daylight.

Once I performed at a sprawling estate in Rancho Santa Fe. We went to the security gate and they had cameras and intercom. Once they knew we were the band, the gates opened automatically, and I swear we must’ve drove a good half mile through forest area before we saw the main house. And we didn’t even perform in the main house, we performed in their sports building next to the tennis courts and swimming pool!

But lately, I’ve been exposed quite a bit to this other side of society, being that every Friday I perform with Jordano at the Fairbanks Ranch Country Club… a beautiful area with the best looking gold course in all of San Diego County. We perform in the patio area overlooking the expanse of green golf courses and palm trees. Many times, hot air balloons are peacefully drifting by overhead. I still gaze in awe at the wonderful views, as the sun begins to set.

Fairbanks Ranch is a beautiful sprawling area….

I suppose I am blessed that I get the opportunities to perform in this area, and catch glimpses of what it’s like (from a poor musician’s point of view) to see how the folks in the upper echelons of high society live and play….

The whole experience just keeps me dreaming, of another time and place, where I might be afforded the luxuries of living this kind of lifestyle…. maybe one day… and so I dream….
