quick update….
July 30th, 2007Last week was busy and this week too…. basically:
1. Most of last week, I was spending a great deal of time preparing for my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary. It was last Saturday. And though lots of fun, was a bit stressful for me.
2. The slide show I’d been working on for months became corrupted and so was the software. Last Monday I had to start all over but I managed to create a new one and it was a big success. Everyone seemed to like it.
3. Tomorrow I have Jury Duty! Ack! Not again…
4. The past few days, my wife and I have been moving our oldest son, Cameron, to the residence hall at UC Riverside. It was a lot of work and emotionally hard to leave our son there, but it was something that had to be done.
5. Tomorrow I also have another gig with Jordano and Flamenco Nova at The Turquoise.
6. Thursday I’ll be in the studio recording with Flamenco Nova!
7. And the best news of all: I bought a brand new Nikon D40 dSLR digital camera, and am so happy with it. Finally, I have a decent digital camera to take photographs with.
8. I was offered another interview for a PHP programmer position, but I can’t be bothered with that right now. Family is more important than work.

sounds like you are really in the thick of it –highs, lows and nitty gritty…the stuff of real life, i guess.
congrats on your purchase! i don’t do jealousy but this gets me pretty close^^. enjoy…

tokyrose: thanks. for me the nikon camera was a major purchase. and i was debating on whether to get an iPhone instead, but i already have a cell phone and an account with t-mobile and didn’t want to switch over to AT&T.
but i really needed the new camera really bad. the previous digital camera kept messing up on me, especially on important photo opp moments. i just wished i had gotten the camera earlier to do the slide project with.

Wow, moving into a UC dorm brings back memories. Specifically as a freshman when I moved into the dorms at UCI, they served tofu burgers. That was something new for me. Anyways, congrats on that and also the new camera!

Barron: cool! you went to UC Irvine! i think my son would’ve liked to go there but he didn’t get in. actually, he was ultimately going for UC Berkeley or UCLA or UCSD.

BTW - my first “real” digital SLR was a Canon D60, bought in 2002 and I still use it regularly! ‘Only’ 6MP, but a great camera, you will LOVE yours!!

Pat: thanks, and thanks! :o)
wow, you got your first dSLR back in 2002! are you a Canon person?
i confess that i’d been a Canon person for years because way back when i purchased a Canon AE-1 Program (analog SLR) and i still have it and it works but i never use it.
i’ve always been intrigued by Nikon, so i guess i wanted a change to a different yet still great brand of camera.
so, just getting a nice (yet affordable to me) dSLR is sort of mindblowing to me. yeah, i’m glad i finally made the jump. :o)

i’m guessing that this is your son’s first year at college. fun times. :) i had such a bad day the first time i moved into the dorms. i cried (’sobbed’ is a better word) at the end of that day.

yeah, my son seemed to have a tough time at first. but the course goes so quickly (they have quarters instead of semesters) that maybe there’s no time to dwell on that.

I too had to put a slide show together recently. I videoed an event (for church) and my wife used my D60 and took the stills, she took over 200 shots. “They” wanted a slide show to be presented the next day. I loaded the shots into iPhoto like always and poked around and found a function I never saw before, it can export the slide show into Quicktime automatically, even with the Ken Burns effect! Very slick.
BTW, I still want to see your new shots!! ;-)

pat: that’s cool. will have to try that for quick slideshows.
