9:00pm update on fires…
October 22nd, 2007BREAKING NEWS: Del Mar city officials are reporting that the fire has moved into the Fairbanks Ranch area. Residents in Del Mar are being told to evacuate.
The family and I are now in a hotel room at the Town & Country Hotel in Fashion Valley. As I write this I just heard on the TV that there are no avaiable hotel rooms in San Diego. With more than 250,000 people evacuating from the fire zones, that’s understandable. My sis-in-law is in another room two doors down. Through the kindness of one of my wife’s co-workers, we were able to get these two rooms at the last minute, reserved for us while we were still stuck in all that traffic.
We’re still keeping an eye on the TV news. So, far Scripps Ranch has not lost any homes. I recall during the 2003 Cedar Fire, some hundreds of homes were lost. Today, up to 500 homes are said to have been lost in the fires.
I am so tired right now. I was going to gain internet access in my hotel room, then realized that I had forgotten the power cord to my laptop back at my parents’ house. So, I had to drive back to my parents’ place, already dead tired. I think that maybe I slept about an hour last night because there was going to be a big report on the fires at 1 or 2 last night.
Anyway, I’m back at my hotel room, blogging and back online, eating some food via room service. Feeling dead tired and ready to hit the bed.
