safe but worried…

BREAKING NEWS: Del Mar city officials are reporting that the fire has moved into the Fairbanks Ranch area. Residents in Del Mar are being told to evacuate.

So, I woke up just now and did two things:

1. Turned on the TV to check the latest updates on the fires.

2. Got online to check the online news.

The TV news mentions that the Harris Fire to the south has moved west toward the Eastlake and Otay Lakes area. I have a cousin and a brother who live in this area. But so far it’s a voluntary evacuation for that area. My brother has stayed put, while my cousin and his family had evacuated.

The news also mentions that the Witch Creek Fire has moved further west to Del Mar. There is a mandatory evacuation order there. And this same fire has also moved east to Wild Cat Canyon and Willow Road. The community of Lakeside had been evacuated as well.

There is no news of whether the Witch Creek Fire had moved south of Poway towards Scripps Ranch. Which is good I suppose. But the element of not knowing is rather scary. Not knowing whether your home was burned down or not.

All this feels like Deja Vu, and I find myself once again in a hotel room, not knowing if my house is still standing or not. I have this burning desire to go home and see, but the Police Department has now blocked the Scripps Ranch area to prevent looters from taking over the neighborhood. Which is good. I heard somewhere that for those who’ve stayed in Scripps Ranch in their homes… they will need to have a photo ID plus some proof that they live at that address, like a phone bill or something.

I had a very good sleep last night, which was badly needed I guess. On Saturday and Sunday I ran the 5 miles around Lake Miramar, feeling very energetic this past weekend. With all the hoopla that occured yesterday, my muscles (especially my leg muscles) are feeling very sore. I feel well-rested yet feeling aches and pains from the past 3 days.

I’m alive I guess. That’s good. My family is okay. So, now… we wait.
