So, Christmas is coming…

Last year this time, we had a relative who was diagnosed with cancer. And for the family it was a very depressing time. She was diagnosed with cancer just before Thanksgiving, so our Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years was not a good one.

Today, this relative is cancer-free! Miracles can happen.

Anyway, that experience (because I was close to it) made me realize just how grateful I should be for living another day. And, living moment to moment is a self-realization that life is precious, and we should try to experience our lives fully, no matter where we are… no matter what we are doing at the moment.

Christmas is coming! Do you not feel it in the air?

It’s beautiful!

And it has nothing to do with the amount of x-mas lights you have all around your house, or how big your x-mas tree is, or how many gifts you’ll get or how expensive they will be.

To be honest, I don’t think we actually need all that. Though the thought of giving others gifts is a truly noble gesture.

I guess what I’m getting at is the “spirit” of Christmas. The whole “feel” of actually realizing just how special this time of year is. And it’s not just about being Christian. Because I know Buddhists, Muslims, and Jews who celebrate this time of year too. Even aethiests!

It’s about that “spirit” of Christmas. That feeling of universal brotherly (and sisterly) love.

For some reason I feel it more than any other time in my life. So, why now? I’m sure others have felt it in the past.

I guess it was my time to realize it. At this moment.

Me being a musician. I know that music is a very powerful thing that can uplift people’s hearts and souls. It’s there in every Gospel choir on Sundays. It’s there when we go to a concert, or listen on our iPods.

I know that Music is that thing that connects us to each other because it’s the universal language of mankind. And it’s one powerful thing that separates us from animals. That we have the ability to express ourselves through music, through singing and playing musical instruments.

That we can express and communicate through tones and sound vibrations is truly a miracle!

The more I perform music for others, the more I see it as a two-way communication. Especially at all the concerts, weddings and restaurants I’ve performed in, us musicians depend on the audience to truly reach perfection. Without an audience we are just practicing.

Anyway, before I go off on another tangent, I just want to express that today I’m quite happy. Happy enough that I wish to document here that I am happy. That it seems to be a deep happiness. A true sense of Joy.

No, I didn’t smoke anything, or take some hallucinogens. I didn’t fall off the deep end… Hehe… and that’s the beauty of this. And I wanted to share it, and I hope it lasts. And I’m hoping you who reads this catches a bit of what I’m trying to say…

The world is full of terror, violence and bad stuff out there.

But I wanted to enjoy this moment, however fleeting, and hope that this is a deeper realization that is much more lasting…..

I wish everyone much Peace and Joy during the holidays!

Namaste…

it’s nice to hear/read you so happy, carlos ^^. and i agree with you, these moments should be treasured. though, personally, i don’t believe in happiness as a constant state (maybe i just haven’t had that experience) but i think that it’s exactly the fleeting, impermanent nature of it that makes it so precious…

    happy holidays! ^^
