The Christmas Surge

December 9th, 2007

Especially with the Christmas Surge in full steam all around us, it’s important to not get stressed about all the negative aspects of it.

It’s pretty vicious out there. On the freeways, people are driving around like maniacs and being very inconsiderate to others, not to mention dangerous behind the wheel.

People are still figthing for parking spaces at the mall. I’m seeing a LOT more rude people out there, as the whole stress of the Holiday Season is beginning to take its toll.

In San Diego, it doesn’t help that we’ve been getting so much rain in the past two days. I’ve been rather wary when driving home late after the gigs in the rain.

Anyway, I’m going to make a personal vow today to not let all the negative things get in the way. They are all around us, and always have. It’s just a matter of focusing on the positive, and learning to “see” with the mind in a perspective that puts one above all the worldly stuff.

. . . .

By the way, Cecil told us bandmembers a pretty funny story recently. Well, it’s not really funny, but I guess it came across rather funny at the time. He said he was a member of this Church and the pastor made them go on these long fasts for spiritual purification and to abstain from watching television. One day he walked through the pastor’s door and found him eating fried chicken and watching television. And I just picture this pastor looking at Cecil like a deer looking straight into the headlights of a car! I just wish I was there to see the look on his face.

But, it just goes to show you that there is religion, and there are people out there who try to guide others down the religious path but are total hypocrites. Sad stuff, actually.

I’ve always felt that ultimately, whatever religion one has is a personal one. One’s path is one’s own personal journey, and no one should try to tell you otherwise….
