A Visit To The Dentist…

January 10, 2008 by randomguru

So, I just got back from the dentist, and I confess that I had three cavities that needed filling. I guess one bad thing about eating lots of fruits is that it’s still sugary and it can cause cavities if I don’t always brush after every meal. So I’ll have to be better at brushing my teeth more often because the bill was expensive.

Anyway, my dentist is a super-nice guy. Younger than me and has some young kids. He recently went on one of those Disney Cruises with his family and is going to go again this year. He also talked about a couple of cousins who are devout buddhist monks. One currently lives in a monastery in Nepal, and another one lives in Vietnam. For some reason my dentist really got to talking about Buddhism and I really couldn’t get a word in because I had my mouth open the entire time and couldn’t talk, of course. But I wanted to mentioned my studies and readings in Buddhism, The Dalai Lama, etc.

I was reading recently about the benefits of having real live houseplants, especially in the bedroom because they can generate oxygen. Yes, this would be good especially when it can get stuff in my bedroom while I sleep, and especially with the heater on at night. So, I bought a small houseplant (a vine) just to get started. When I was in high school I had a couple of well-cared-for houseplants that I took immaculate care for. So, I do have the potential for having a green thumb, but I’ve killed a lot of plants in the past too.

Okay, my mouth is still feeling quite numb from the novacaine. It feels really weird!

i know! isn’t it just so annoying? i had a session with a really interesting dentist too, a few weeks ago, and wished i could have contributed a little more than spit to the conversation ^^

house plants in the bedroom…i always heard it’s not the best idea since the process of photosynthesis is reversed at night (releasing carbon dioxide instead of oxygen). not sure if it’s true…though i suppose you could move the plants into the hallway for the night?
