Room 427

January 15th, 2008

I had quite a vivid dream last night. I guess it could be classified as a nightmare, actually.

In the dream, I was on the road as a musician and for some reason three of us musicians shared a room at a hotel and I remember vividly that we stayed in room 427. I think this is the very first time that I remembered any kind of numbers in my dreams, and this time I remember staring at the door to our hotel room and seeing room number 427.

Anyway, I was staying in the room by myself, and the other two musicians went out to get something to eat. And that’s when I started experiencing paranormal activity in this room. I remember seeing someone lying down on the bed and it was some strange person wrapped in plastic. I know, sounds eerie and weird, but that’s what I saw in the dream in this room. Then the person mysteriously vanished. And then, I started seeing the door to room 427 open and close all by itself!

Next, I must’ve called hotel security but I don’t recall ever making a phone call. But I remember them showing up and checking the place out. There was a walk-in closet and they checked that, and when they opened the door to the walk-in closet I thought I saw someone hanging from a rope in the closet. But it turned out to be a white bathrobe.

Then, the strangest part of the dream occured. Somehow I woke up or had awakened from consciousness (within the dream) and I was in another room on the first floor of the hotel. I remember it was on the first floor and near the lobby and hotel desk. This was strange because usually there aren’t any hotel rooms on the first floor, I don’t think. Anyway, in this hotel they had hotel rooms on the first floor. There were two young ladies in this hotel room and they said they had taken me in because they were worried about me. I had been running down the hall, frightened, claiming to have seen a ghost, but I don’t remember ever seeing the ghost or running away. And I was found only wearing a white bathrobe, the one I had seen in the walk-in closet in room 427, which I thought was a dead body.

Anyway, I just remembered seeking refuge from something terrible I’d experienced in room 427, and these two young ladies were kind enough to help me. Then the next thing I knew I was off to the next gig on this road trip, still feeling frightened from what I had experienced but not really knowing exactly what that was. Just feeling those fears of terror and dread.

When I had awoken from my “dream” it was around 4:07am. I didn’t have the blankets covering me, so I was feeling very cold when I woke up. I couldn’t go back to sleep so I went online and thought about doing a search on google… “haunted room 427″. At first I was actually afraid to do it for fear that I would find a Room 427 that was haunted somewhere… and sure enough, there was!

Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas - One of the most famous hotels in the state of Texas, and long a gathering place for the state’s political players, it is said to be haunted by at least half a dozen ghosts, including the spirit of a young girl heard bouncing a ball down the main stairs; the ghost of founder Jesse Driskill himself; and a “suicide bride” who killed herself in room 427 in 1989.

The Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas didn’t look anything at all like the hotel in my dream, so I feel so much better about that. But knowing there is a Room 427 there that is supposedly haunted, and connecting that to Room 427 in my dream sort of sends chills up and down my spine…. *shiver*

maaaaan! i’ve stayed at that hotel…don’t remember the room number but i did sleep well :./

you have a great story there though, enough for a movie if you flesh it out a bit…

tokyorose: really? wow! but that’s reassuring that you slept well there! it’s comforting, actually. ;o)

as for a great story? hmm… thanks for the tip. i just might expand on this. although there’s a movie called 1408 in which the character of John Cusack encounters paranormal experiences in it. so, it’s kind of already been done?

incidentally, the numbers in 1408 add up to the number 13.

but, also the numbers in 427 also add up to 13… scary, huh? that’s if you consider the number 13 unlucky. in some cultures it’s considered lucky.

Wow! I just stayed at the Driskill last night, I live here in Austin and I had the WORST experience last night. I was there because my best friend got married there last night and we all partied pretty hard and decided not to drive home drunk. Unfortunately, I got sick earlier in the day so I decided not to drink b/c of the meds I have taken don’t mix with alcohol. We decide to stay anyway. So, My husband and I are assigned rm 420. I have a hard time getting to sleep b/c I feel unsettled, and I toss and turn and finally fall asleep. I am awoken by something choking me and shaking me. I cant see anything but the ceiling my husband cant hear me b/c he is passed out, but he vaguely remembers me hitting him and shoving him. (he had drank quite a bit.) As sudden as it came, it went away. I eventually went back to sleep. ust thought you would think the experience was interesting… Incidentally the Driskill rooms have white robes hanging in ALL of the closets of their rooms. Just thought you would like to know…..

okay, now your story is freaking me out a bit. but it’s amazing how you found my post and that you experienced something very similar to my dream and in a room very close by mine (in the dream).

btw, i had a similar incident of some unknown force holding me down and choking me while i was sleeping in my bed. it was a very scary experience, but i read somewhere online that it has something to do with being half asleep half awake and the body being partially paralyzed or something… called “night terrors”.

My husband and I stayed at the driskall last night and we were also in room 420. I am not a big believer in ghosts but abot 3 am by a tapping noise. I turned to see where the noise was coming from and there was a small loveseat to the left of me I could swear it was a man tapping his foot and sittting on the couch. I shoved my husband and told him to turn the light on right away and nothing was there. I knew nothing of the supposed hauntings at that hotel. In the morning my husband was talking to his sister on the phone and she said that the hotel was known to be haunted. Yikes Suziq’s posting freaks me out. i know I saw and heard something . I think the man was wearing a hat. Gives me chills
