Signs Of Life At Fifty

January 26th, 2008

Guess who?Whenever my birthday has come up in the past I sort of cringe, mostly because I was never really into celebrating my own birthdays. To me it’s just another day. Sure, I suppose it’s important to celebrate the day you arrived into this world. But, in all honesty, nowadays I celebrate every day and every moment that I am alive.

So here I am, having reached the age of 50. And I appreciate the fact that it’s a milestone in one’s life. I know many people over the age of 50 and who have made it well past that age. If you ask me, my next goal is to reach the age of 100. Well, one has to set goals, right? Anything’s possible under the sun. And I have the ambition to see what the world will be like when I’m 100.

Anyway, I asked my wife and relatives to just not make a big deal about me turning 50. And here’s my main reason:

I just want a nice, quiet day to reflect on my life… without the celebration and the partying… just a day mostly in solitude, to do a little “gardening”, playing the piano, some meditation and yoga. That was all I asked for. I always feel that whenever I do a gig, it’s sort of like a party and a celebration of life in general.

But I am very appreciative of all the birthday greetings and wishes I’ve received on Facebook, via email and comments and the like. For that I am grateful.

Well, I’m going to enjoy my day now… at 50! Wow!

You know, I don’t feel any different. It’s just another year having traveled around the Sun on this blue little marble in the universe.

One thing I’ve learned over the years… never act your age. Always keep that child within. Getting older doesn’t necessarily have to mean “growing old”. Always think young. And have a youthful attitude. Adapt and learn. And those are my words of wisdom for today…

Peace & Love….
