Do You Believe Global Warming Is Real?

February 19th, 2008

global warmingA while back I did a DVD Review on Al Gore’s, An Inconvenient Truth (2006). Since then I’ve been doing my own research on the subject, but the more I get into it, the more I find there are just as many people saying that it is perhaps The Biggest Hoax Ever Perpetrated.

Fact Or Fiction?

But, when I first watched Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth I was immediately sold on the theory of Global Warming. If anything, human population alone (rising from 2 billion people in 1958 to 9 billion people in 2005) is enough of a cold hard fact to be concerned about how we as humans are impacting our environment.

Of course, people against Global Warming believe there is no truth to that theory, and that the Earth has experienced temperature fluctuations (i.e. Ice Ages) throughout the billions of years of its existence. That temp change is a natural occurence.

Hard Claims On Both Sides

It’s interesting to note that initially, proponents of the Global Warming movement have sited that scientists who have found evidence of Global Warming, have been or have tried to be silenced by the powers-that-be, as a means to hide the truth. Perhaps, this is a way for corporations and politicians to stave off an impending inconvenient truth that would affect their businesses.

At the same time, people against Global Warming have claimed that the Global Warming movement has become powerful and it’s now harder for certain corporations, politicians, etc. to voice their opposition toward Global Warming without becoming silenced… thus, claiming the opposite has been happening to them.

Either way, we as individuals have a right to find out the truth for ourselves. I myself am inclined to believe that Global Warming is a reality based on what I have perceived through what information and media I have read, seen or heard.

Al Gore Wins The Nobel Peace Prize

OSLO, Norway - Al Gore and the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize Friday, and the former vice president used the attention to warn that global warming is “the greatest challenge we’ve ever faced.”

World leaders, President Bush among them, congratulated the winners, while skeptics of man’s contribution to warming criticized the choice of Gore.

Gore in a statement said he was ” deeply honored … We face a true planetary emergency. The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity.”

The fact is, Al Gore’s winning a Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 for his work on Global Warming is a strong indication that people from all walks of life have come to take this theory of Global Warming very seriously. And now, as various movements such as the Green Revolution are building up steam and momentum, as Hybrid vehicles are becoming the norm, and as people begin to change their lifestyles, their eating habits and adopting ways to conserve and preserve the environment… there are still many who believe that Global Warming is simply a Hoax…

But…

Global Warming: Who Would Make Up Such A Thing?

Why would anyone make up something such as Global Warming? Who could stand to benefit by pushing the theory of Global Warming? Logically, if anything, big oil and energy corporations and those politicians who support them have much to lose. So, I’m beginning to wonder if it is those special interest groups that are so intent on disproving the whole Global Warming movement.

I think that either way, we all should be concerned about the environment: the big population increase in human population in the past few decades, the increased consumption of our Earth’s resources, the increase of fuel emissions that causes pollution, and how our increasing technology impacts other living things.

The Scientific Naysayers

Naysayers to the whole Global Warming movement seem to have valid points against it. That the Earth’s temperature and climate have gone through various changes over the eons. But, if people on both sides seem to have valid points for or against Global Warming, then who do you believe? It can truly become confusing.

There’s At Least Some Truth To It, No?

I’m inclined to believe that Global Warming is real. Living in San Diego most of my life, I’ve noticed many dramatic changes in the weather in just the past 5 years. To extent of the potential damage for the future? No one can tell, really.

So, what do you think? Is Global Warming real? Or is it just a Hoax?
