What you are saying means nothing!

Should you call black people Africans even if they've never been in Africa? Do you call white people non-Americans because they were never the original natives, compared to the American Indians... the true native Americans?

The Philippines is located in Asia. So therefore they are Asians! And like Americans (who are a big melting pot of ethnicities and cultures, if they were born in American they are Americans!

The white folks down in South Africa are still called South Africans. Even though they originally came from Europe. Would you call them Europeans? What would you call the black people born and raised in Europe?

Sorry, but your points really make no sense at all. And there's no more point in arguing with you.

Anyone born and raised in America are Americans. Anyone born in The Philippines are Filipinos, and because they are in Southeast Asia, they are Asians. Case closed! I'm tired of dealing with idiots!

The philipines is rarely mentioned in chinese, japanese, korean, vietnamese history articles. And when the philipines is mentioned in asian history, it refers to us as uncivilized islander tribal people. I guess that contradicts your claims.

Like I said, the biggest evidence of our ancenstry is "how we look". Majority(99%) of filipinos look of "oceanic origin." You cant deny that.

The Pacific Islanders did come from Southeast Asia... from Borneo, Indonesia, etc. I don't dispute that. But the Filipinos did NOT come from the Pacific Islands, it's the other way around. The Pacific Islanders came from Southeast Asia and new evidence is showing that many came from mainland China some 7,000 years ago.

Here's a nice link that discusses the origins of Pacific Islanders, and once again The Philippines isn't even mentioned:

http://www.pbs.org/wayfinders/polynesian.html

The Philippines is geographically and politically a part of Southeast Asia. What part of that fact don't you understand? If you can't believe what the Philippine government has to say (or not), then there's no point in arguing further...

You believe you are a Pacific Islander. That is your reality... your mentality. So be it. And Enjoy! :o)

Do you realize that the chinese have traveled all over the world. They have a history with the whole world that far surpasses the history with the philipines? The Chinese are more prevalent in other countries, yet people from other countries dont call themselves asian. The core root of our ancestors are not asian. I can bet you.

If you have studied your filipino goverment history, you would have learned that back in the late 70s and early 80s the filipino government started a campaign to boost their image for trade and economics, and this campaigne included associating with the term "asian" to boost a good image for philipines. They fought hard to be part of SE asia.

Do you realize that our most oldest cuisines are shared with borneo/papua/pacific? Bagaung, Underground roast pig, etc, etc. Soy sauce, lumpia, pancit is only a recent introduction to the philippines. Even the hawaiians eat soy sauce and have hawaiian fried rice, and hawaiian noodles.

I have been mistaken for Hawaiian many times in the past. But I've also been mistaken for an Hispanic as well. But now, Hawaiians themselves are a mixture of ethnic Hawaiians, Japanese, Okinawans, Filipinos, etc.

Filipinos came to Hawaii during the 1st half of the 20th century, attracted to those islands by opportunities to work. They were part of the 1st wave of Filipino immigrants coming to Hawaii and then to the United States for better opportunities.

I've already stated all the facts that I've put together in my blog posts about the Filipino people's heritage. No doubt there is a Pacific Islander feel to the people, the culture and the fact that the Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands in the Pacific Ocean.

I'm just trying to emphasize the Filipino people's Asian roots, because it's a fact that we have origins in Asia than in Polynesia and true Pacific Islander nations, who according to much research came from Southeast Asia, Mainland China, Taiwan and parts of Australia and New Zealand.

If you look in the mirror and think you are a Pacific Islander, then that is your choice and the way you feel about yourself. Filipinos are a unique people that have become a fusion of various influences, cultures, and peoples. Which no doubt is one of the reason why I myself am mistaken for an Hispanic, a Hawaiian or somebody other than Filipino.

But don't lose sight of the fact that the Philippines is a part of Southeast Asia and is geographically and culturally closer to Southeast Asian countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, etc than Hawaii, Polynesian Islands, Melanesia, etc. If you truly study those Pacific Islander cultures you'll find them farther apart in culture than say, we are to China, for instance. The Filipinos have been influenced quite a bit by Chinese culture and Chinese merchants traded with the Filipinos for centuries. Many Filipinos have Chinese ancestry, for instance.

I wouldn't want to be just be thought of as a Pacific Islander, when we have strong ties to Asia AND Europe!

I'm filipino and Ive been mistaken for being hawaiian all my life. I even think I look pacific islander myself. Alll of My family and cousin as well looks pacific islander. This forum is the last desperate attempt to cause ignorant filipinos to disconnect from their pacific islander tradition, history, and heritage.

Randomguru totally neglects anything pacific islander. He doesnt even acknowledge our pacific islander similarities. He brushes it off.

Who cares what the government and what the "white" people say. The government could have simply said that filipinos are spanish/hispanic, and as a result randomguru would propably try and convince filipinos that they are spanish/hispanic with wikipedia and government facts.

Randomguru should follow his heart, and not follow the government and what "white" say.The biggest evidence that filipinos are not asian is how we look in the mirror, and our language. We dont look like asians at all. Our language does not even sound chinese or japanese. Randomguru also desperately tries to link us to japanese and chinese culture. That makes me sad. He is desperate.

Randomguru constantly talks about diversity in the asian community....What about diversity in pacific community, which filipinos are one of the ethnics that makes the pacific diverse?

I urge all filipinos to follow their hearts and dont let a forum conivince you that you are not pacific islander.
