Amy Winehouse: Me and Mr. Jones

July 10, 2008 by randomguru

I confess not getting into Amy Winehouse’s music from the start. Actually, I think that her problems with substance abuse (particularly crack cocaine) and other bad press had led me to “write her off” as a legitimate singer/songwriter. But the truth is she is one of the best new artists out there that truly “emotes” when she sings.

But, a few months ago I saw the 2007 Isle of Wight Concert on one of the HD Channels, and I was very impressed with her soulful, sultry vocal style and warmed up to her singing (which I now think is amazing). And her band is really tight too. Tight backing vocals. Tight horns.

This youtube video, taken from the Isle of Wight Concert, demonstrates her ability to somehow extrapolate various genres from jazzy blues to soul to doo wop.

And below is her 2008 Grammy performance (winning a total of 5 Grammy Awards that night). I totally missed the Grammys earlier this year.

O-man: not a dumb question at all… i should’ve been more descriptive since i had two youtube videos posted in this one entry. i just wrote a quickie post here. so, the top video Amy Winehouse performs a song, “Me and Mr. Jones”… which i believe she wrote. which reminds me of that old song, “Me and Mrs. Jones”. perhaps this was an answer to that song? not sure. :o)

You should see her photos on thesuperficial.com. LOL
Kidding aside, I love Amy Winehouse. She’s a very talented singer. It’s too bad she’s a druggie though. And alcoholic as well.
