We Are No Different Than Anyone Else…

July 10, 2008 by randomguru

I found a very hateful, racist comment in a past entry titled, Yes, Filipinos Are Asian!.

I haven’t deleted it yet because I’d been thinking:

1. Why should I delete it when this person is just proving to everyone just how racist he is. And ill-informed. And it proves just how much of a coward he is for keeping himself Anonymous.

2. I was thinking I should leave it up and make my stand against it.

3. And by deleting it am I acknowledging that I was hurt and offended by it? Sure, those words are quite negative and hateful. But, to be honest they are just words that don’t bother me. I mean, I know who I am and don’t need any kind of validation, or nod of approval.

4. I’ve received my share of hate mail over the years. I’m used to it.

Anyway, aren’t we all human? And when you think about it, no matter what ethnic origin we come from, no matter from what part of the world, or the colour of our skin. We really are not that different.

And in a world that grows smaller because of telecommunications, the world wide web, and the fact that we can take a jet plane to any part of the world… the more we are inter-connected and similar because we are a part of humanity.

Why hate? Why create barriers instead of tear down those walls that divide us?

I think it’s nice to appreciate one’s origins, one’s cultural heritage… one’s roots. But we are all part of humanity and a part of this world.

Maybe that’s why I’ve always felt connected to performing music, because music is a universal language that can uplift mankind. Anyway, it’s uplifting to me and helps keep me sane.

Thank God for Music!!!

But hateful remarks… they don’t really bother me so much. And, I can see that people who are hateful like that are the one’s who have some form of inner torment they need to work out. It’s all in the mind how you perceive the world. Jesus as well as the Dalai Lama have said that one should love your enemies… one can learn from one’s enemies. Turning a negative into a positive.

Love CAN conquer hatred. And the only thing Hate can do is to perpetuate more Hate.

I don’t think I would delete a comment like that either, but I’m not so sure I would be as cool as you. It would bother the heck out of me. Racism is so pathetically out of place and yet maintains a strong presence in the US–covertly or overtly. Sometimes evolution seems to move too slowly.

O-man: so true. and i don’t mean to sound like i accept it or anything. it definitely is wrong, but i feel i am at a point where i can deal with it from within… in other words, i have a better protective vest in which the stuff can bounce off me. ;o)
