When Life Gives You Lemons…

…You Make Lemonade!

Of course! Makes perfect sense, this age-old saying.

Well, I’ve put the first six months of 2008 behind me. And, I’m moving on with the notion of making “lemonade” for the remaining six months!

So, here I am currently finding myself in Santa Barbara, in the Hotel MariMonte, and across the street are rows of tall, graceful palm trees and that oh-so-gorgeous view of the Pacific Ocean. I’m here with my wife who is attending a conference, so this is a business trip and my wife asked me to accompany her.

I had a Thursday gig at Le Papagayo but that fell through when the owner found out that he would be slapped with an (up to) $3000 fine because his entertainment license (or whatever they call it) calls for only a solo musician to be performing at the restaurant. And there are possibly half a dozen bands that perform there monthly so Flamenco Nova isn’t the only one affected. Yes, another obstacle to chalk up in 2008, but… I’m making lemonade, right?

Yes, instead of sulking over the loss of yet another gig, I chose to “get out of town” and go with my wife to Santa Barbara, which seems beautiful this time of year. Warm with blue skies and sunshine, yet not hot and muggy like San Diego has been the past few days.

I walked around downtown by myself while my wife was at her meeting this morning. I remember a Yoga store called “Drishti” and thank God for my good memory regarding landmarks, because I can’t (for the life of me) remember street names. I was able to find the place by “intuition” and fortunately it wasn’t far from the Starbucks that I found on State Street.

So, I’m in the hotel room right now surfing the web and watching TV news about Fannie Mae troubles and the Olympics, and I’ll take a quick shower and head on out to pick up my wife and check out the Yoga store…. just trying to enjoy my day and “making lemonade” out of life! Simple. Fun. Happy.
