Hate and Fear: Still Powerful Forces in American Society
October 30, 2008 by randomguru · 3 Comments
I found this YouTube video on GirlRobot.net, and I have to say this was a bit disturbing, yet I wasn’t at all surprised.
Obama is a Christian, yet many Americans from small towns and middle America are convinced he’s a Muslim, a one-man terror cell, a communist and a socialist. Yet, just the other day when Larry King interviewed John McCain, McCain admitted that he believed Obama was not a socialist or communist.
Yet, the damage had been done by McCain and Palin, to create a more divided America amidst negative campaigning.
See this holy personage to the left? Why aren’t his followers following his example? If anyone taught us to love our neighbors and also to love our enemies, not to mention living life with love and compassion. Well, I don’t know what to say. I am at a loss for words.
Many folks absolutely do not want a black man (Obama is half black, half white) in The White House, let alone an accused terrorist and Muslim. What these folks don’t know is that there are many Muslim-Americans in the U.S. Oh, I wonder how they must be feeling, living in a country where they aren’t quite accepted just because they aren’t Christian. What about the atheists, and the Buddhists?
If Obama doesn’t win this election, then so be it. This country is not ready for a President of color. It’s just a shame. You’d think that we as a powerful nation would be more sophisticated, more progressive and very 21st Century. But no. I’m disappointed that with this election we as a nation have shown our true colors of racism, bigotry and ignorance. We are the big bullies of the world.
It is my sincere hope that we as a nation will learn from this election somehow. To be more compassionate, understanding, more loving toward our fellow human beings… and less fearful, hateful, and mean spirited.
It just breaks my heart that there is so much fear and hatred surfacing with these elections!
Before anyone starts even thinking that I hate America. Just stop right there. None of this “America, love it or leave it” crap! I love America and its ideals very much. This has been my home for as long as I can remember. You can still love your country enough to want it to be better than it is right now!
But, if this country keeps getting worse, and not improving for the better… who would blame me for leaving this country? A lot of ex-patriots have already settled in other countries like France and England and Canada. It’s definitely something to consider because after this whole economic trouble has run its course i won’t have anymore retirement and benefits left!
Okay, I better stop now or I’ll start really getting angry…. I just need to stay positive and weather the storm…
As a nation, here’s what we SHOULD do…. we should start thinking about protecting this little blue planet we live in, and start looking after all the people living on it…
John McCain Rocks On Drums!
October 30, 2008 by randomguru · Leave a Comment
I’m sure everyone’s seen those green screen challenges on YouTube, but I especially love this one with John McCain on drums. Actually, it’s the great Dennis Chambers who’s actually doing all the work. McCain is just talking!
Of course, if John McCain really played drums (or piano) he’d definitely have my vote. :o)
On another note:
Dhrumil posted a link on Twitter about actress Gwyneth Paltrow and how she dealt with her father’s death from cancer, and dealing with her own health. I admire Gwyneth’s devotion to Ashtanga Yoga and interests in healthy living. She was featured in the GOOP October Newsletter.
I had read somewhere that in Asia, the concept of going to the doctor when you were already sick was akin to digging a well when you were already thirsty. This struck a chord with me. Over the years I have had my share of medical issues, as we all do. Recently I have found three doctors (one in London, one in New York and one in Los Angeles) who have helped me tremendously. Heeding their advice has helped me out of some very sticky health problems (pneumonia, anemia, stress, etc.). —Gwyneth Paltrow

Cancer Prevention And Raw Vegetables
October 30, 2008 by randomguru · Leave a Comment
We’ve always known that vegetables are healthy for you. it’s just a matter of eating them. Even our mothers and grandmothers have told us to eat our broccoli, no? Well there’s no doubt that vegetables are a natural source of vitamins and minerals, not to mention a great source of natural fiber. But more research is pointing to the fact that raw, organic vegetables are even healthier and can help prevent cancer, and in a few cases, it has actually cured cancer.
One such case in which a breast cancer patient foregoes traditional treatment for a raw diet is that of Shelley Abegg, who after surgery and traditional treatments was told that her cancer had advanced to Stage III and would require more surgery, followed by chemotherapy and radiation, and at that point she turned to a raw food diet as an alternative treatment.
“Shelley had been interested in trying to look for different ways to comb cancer, and had talked to me about her breast cancer and about how she was approaching it with raw foods,” O’Neill said. “I definitely recommend conventional medical treatments, but also I know that there’s a lot of power in fruits and vegetables.”
Gradually, the cuisine improved, Shelley said. Surprisingly, so did how she felt.
“Back in 2001, I was so weak and getting worse,” she said. “When I would eat the food, the energy came back. I wasn’t tired anymore.”
People started commenting that Shelley looked younger than ever before — glowing skin, shining hair. Nothing like a cancer patient should. At the end of the first year, tests showed she was winning the fight. That was a huge psychological boost, she said.
Seven years later, the Abeggs are cancer-free diehard raw food converts. Shelley now uses cuisine as an outlet for her artistic leanings, having started a business online called Raw Food Art. She says she’s never felt better — but stresses again and again that she doesn’t claim to have the cure for anyone else.
“I am teaching the art of raw food as a career, not as the answer for curing cancer,” she said. “It depends on the individual and where they are for themselves.”
But in the case of raw vegetables, which ones are the best vegetables to eat in helping prevent cancer?
So which ‘powerhouse vegetables’ exactly do we need to incorporate in our diets? Cruciferous vegetables includes not only cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower, but also arugula, Brussels sprouts, collard greens, daikon, garden cress, horseradish, kale, kohlrabi, mustard, radish, rape (canola), rapini, rutabaga, tatsoi, turnip, wasabi and watercress.
But raw vegetables aren’t really emphasized enough…
Modern nutritional researchers remain ignorant about raw foods vs. cooked foods, and they group them all together, oblivious to the fact that cooked foods lack the natural medicine of raw foods…
The plant-based medicines in vegetables are delicate molecules that are easily destroyed by heat. Cooking these foods destroys the medicine they contain - by the way: Microwaving broccoli destroys up to 98 per cent of its phytonutrients (components that promote health), including its anti-cancer nutrients.
More and more evidence, of course, is pointing to the fact that you are what you eat. And as more people are seeking a healthier lifestyle they are turning to raw fruits and vegetables as a means to help prevent cancer.
If you are given the choice between donuts and broccoli, which one would be more healthy and nutritious? So, when your Mother told you to eat your broccoli, you might’ve thought that eating a donut would be more satisfying, but we all know that Mom was right. Eat your broccoli, Junior!
The Obama Infomercial - “American Stories, American Solutions”
October 29, 2008 by randomguru · Leave a Comment
I found out just now that the Obama Infomercial was made available in its entirety on YouTube by the Obama Campaign, so without further ado, if you haven’t watched it yet… here it is…
“When I read his economic plan, and I saw the people endorsing it (and all the new ideas), Warren Buffett and others, I thought, this is the right plan for America”. —Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google
A LiveBlogger from ModerateLeft.com wrote:
I really do think this is a great ad, and well worth the money. He’s giving a strong closing argument for his election — I’m going to improve the nation, I’m going to help the poor, and I’m going to be a strong defender of America. And I’m not going to divide us, I’m going to unite us. That’s change we can believe in. McCain will mock and ridicule — that’s what he does now. But fundamentally, McCain hasn’t given anyone anything to vote for. Obama [has].
To summarize: I thought the Obama Infomercial was deeply moving. He gave us examples of real people he met on the campaign trail, told their story, their plight, and it was hard not to feel a connection to their situation because these were real Americans like you and me, struggling with rising food prices, healthcare, job loss and the economic crisis. I think Obama was very clear in presenting his goals and plans. And he seems to have the leadership qualities that can make him an effective president in bringing about the kind of change that can improve our way of life.
“I am reminded every single day, that I am not a perfect man. I will not be a perfect president. But I can promise you this… I will always tell you what I think and where I stand. I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I will listen to you when we disagree. But most importantly I will open the doors of government and ask you to be involved in your own democracy again.” —Barack Obama
Obama Talks About His Socialist-Communist Roots
October 29, 2008 by randomguru · Leave a Comment
Oh yeah! This is some hot, breaking news that will shatter the Obama-Biden campaign once and for all.
Obama admits to being a socialist and a communist! In fact, he was taught early on by his Mom, the teachings of the Communist way of life…
Check this out!
Obama confessed that he shared his toys with other kids when he was in kindergarten! And the big clincher? He actually shared his peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with his fellow classmates… or should we say… comrades? Yep, he’s a communist! Sharing his wealth like that.
Yep, I think the McCain-Palin camp is going to have a field day with this one, yessiree….
End Poverty and World Hunger…
October 29, 2008 by randomguru · Leave a Comment
I put together a short 30 second video that uses one of my songs, “My Sanctuary”, to get the message across about world hunger and poverty. I think this would be a good project to work on, to finish by using the full song. Anyway, this is a brief sample, and hopefully I can feature (somehow) some non-profit organizations who are involved in the war against poverty and world hunger… by I need to create a worthy contribution to this cause.
