Drifting Along A Peaceful Afternoon

The photo below was taken overlooking the Pacific Ocean at Pacific Beach, California, when suddenly a flock of birds flew overhead, heading South. This entry combines my original music with my original photography and poetry.

An Excerpt From: To Fly Above The Stillness
my mind
was stilled, and ever silent
focused on pinpoint reflection
calmed, like a silent stream
my heart
was left, by the sea
in the days, that followed
a lasting memory, unchained me
my soul
was given freedom, to fly

MISC NOTES:
This piece was totally improvised, playing “bass” and piano by splitting the keyboard, and MIDI-ing the Oberhiem Pad and “Morning to Dusk” samples at the same time to the upper half of the keyboard.
So, this was all done in one take, late one night… influenced by a Keith Jarrett song I can’t remember, and also inspired by the Vince Guaraldi tune, “Cast Your Fate To The Wind”… well, sort of.
The bass part simply pedals along carefree in a kind of ostinato effect, but not really. It drifts in and out.
I’m sort of experimenting with combining musical works with photography and poetry, and I thought the photo of the birds flying South reminded me of this piece and its free-spirited, simple nature.
Once again, I like to experiment and improvise with random musical motifs and not get too formal as far as musical structure is concerned.
