What Will Google Wave Bring?
Share September 29, 2009 | Internet
What exactly is Google Wave? And how will it bring something totally new to the social media culture?
First and foremost, Google Wave will be “open source”, which will allow many possibilities in customization.
Developed by Lars and Jens Rasmussen (and Stephanie Hannon), who created google maps. And, tomorrow 100,000 people will be invited to become “beta testers” for this brand new product.
I caught an article on CNN about Google Wave:
(CNN) — Google Wave, a product that promises to revolutionize online communication, will go out to about 100,000 beta testers Wednesday.
The Web application from Google Inc. combines elements of e-mail, chat, Wiki documents, blogs and photo-sharing sites to create a form of Internet communication called a “hosted conversation,” or a “wave.”

Google Wave: A Complete Guide (via Mashable)
“…here’s the sum of it: Google Wave is a real-time communication platform. It combines aspects of email, instant messaging, wikis, web chat, social networking, and project management to build one elegant, in-browser communication client.” —Ben Parr of Mashable
“…We’ll ask some of these early users to nominate people they know also to receive early invitations — Google Wave is a lot more useful if your friends, family and colleagues have it too. This, of course, will just be the beginning.” —Lars Rasmussen, co-creator of Google Wave
Google Wave Preview Release Wednesday
“Google Wave is communication and collaboration system that aims to be “what e-mail might look like if it were invented today.” It allows both real-time IM-style communication and asynchronous e-mail-style messaging.” —Thomas Claburn, Information Week
Google Wave Invites Tsunami Begins Today
“Have you heard about Google Wave? From what we’ve seen, this could very well revolutionise development and co-operation for techie folks and today Google begins to roll out Google Wave to more developers, just as they did Gmail.” —Shaun Anderson, Hobo

100,000 People Will Get Invitations Tomorrow
How do you get an invite? Well, chances are going to be pretty slim at first. The first 100,000 invites will go to a select group of mostly web developers. But hopefully, the first wave of beta testers will in turn be able to send out invitations to their friends. Just like Gmail. Of course, they will need the interaction in order to use Google Wave!
Well, for developers, this could make things much easier for them to develop web sites, etc. with less code and developing on their end, because Google Wave will handle a lot of the code and functionality.
So far from what I’ve seen on the video, is that Google Wave promises to seamlessly integrate email, web sites, social media, instant messaging in real-time. Sounds promising?
Google Wave is “a personal communication and collaboration tool” announced by Google at the Google I/O conference on May 27, 2009. It is a web-based service, computing platform, and communications protocol designed to merge e-mail, instant messaging, wiki, and social networking.
