What Will Google Wave Bring?

What exactly is Google Wave? And how will it bring something totally new to the social media culture?

First and foremost, Google Wave will be “open source”, which will allow many possibilities in customization.

Developed by Lars and Jens Rasmussen (and Stephanie Hannon), who created google maps. And, tomorrow 100,000 people will be invited to become “beta testers” for this brand new product.

I caught an article on CNN about Google Wave:

(CNN) — Google Wave, a product that promises to revolutionize online communication, will go out to about 100,000 beta testers Wednesday.

The Web application from Google Inc. combines elements of e-mail, chat, Wiki documents, blogs and photo-sharing sites to create a form of Internet communication called a “hosted conversation,” or a “wave.”

100,000 People Will Get Invitations Tomorrow

How do you get an invite? Well, chances are going to be pretty slim at first. The first 100,000 invites will go to a select group of mostly web developers. But hopefully, the first wave of beta testers will in turn be able to send out invitations to their friends. Just like Gmail. Of course, they will need the interaction in order to use Google Wave!

Well, for developers, this could make things much easier for them to develop web sites, etc. with less code and developing on their end, because Google Wave will handle a lot of the code and functionality.

So far from what I’ve seen on the video, is that Google Wave promises to seamlessly integrate email, web sites, social media, instant messaging in real-time. Sounds promising?
