What’s Going On, President Obama?

I’m sure by now everyone’s heard that President Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. While some are wondering why, I’ve been thinking about this Marvin Gaye “classic”.

This song has a powerful message, that War is not the answer, and that only Love can truly conquer Hate.

My heart goes out to the mothers who have sons and daughters fighting for their country in the Middle East, in Iraq and in Afghanistan.

“Mother, mother
There’s too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother
There’s far too many of you dying
You know we’ve got to find a way
To bring some lovin’ here today”

And the more I think about the United States’ plan to send 40,000 more soldiers to Afghanistan, I think how much this resembles another Vietnam, and I wonder “what has America learned in the last 40 some odd years?”

We need to learn from this Marvin Gaye song…

Father, father
We don’t need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we’ve got to find a way
To bring some lovin’ here today

I just hope President Obama will deeply ponder the next moves America will take in escalating the War in Afghanistan, especially now that he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. And learn what happened to the Russians in Afghanistan, and ponder over the lyrics of “What’s Goin On?”.

The Nobel Peace Prize this time is a “call to action” and a merit badge on past accomplishments. Obviously, I see it as a message.

“You see, war is not the answer… For only love can conquer hate”
