Sunday Services and Gospel Music

I find Gospel performances uplifting.
Though, I’m still not quite used to waking up at 6am on Sundays.
But, performing Gospel Music is more uplifting than the drag of waking up early on a Sunday when one can sleep in…
What’s a bit challenging is the fact that every Sunday there’s a new guest artist. And learning two new songs can be a bit nerve-racking, though rewarding at the same time.
But on Sundays I’m gone from 7am to about 1pm. Sometimes I wish I could just sleep in.
Supposedly, I’m just performing every other Sunday but this month the other drummer has been out due to carpal tunnel surgery.
Hopefully, he’ll recover soon so he’ll be able to get back to play some music. And I can go back to every other Sunday. I think that’s a better situation for me.
The good thing is I’m getting paid as a professional musician. And, they seem to really love my drumming at the church. And I truly appreciate that. I’m really hard on myself every time, so positive feedback is always a blessing.
Also, it’s a blessing that this church is “open”, compared to your more traditional Catholic Mass (I was raised a Catholic, though not necessarily a practicing one).
We performing Jazz Music, and other styles of music plus the guest artist’s music. And straight up Gospel and “Praise” Music.
It’s all very positive and uplifting and I really enjoy it immensely… so here I am, getting ready to head on out and go to church!
