Jazzooty: Jazz for your Booty!

Wednesday, 28th October 2009

Jazzooty is a now defunct jazz-fusion group that I performed in way back in 1994-95. Members of the group included Nathan Mills (trumpet), Chris Morante (guitar, guitar synthesizer), Tom Bishop (contrabass, electric bass), and myself on drums and percussion.

Jazzooty

Jazz for your Booty!

Okay this catchy phrase was not my idea, it was Nathan’s.

And here’s our cover letter from our promo package:

Jazzooty is…
The band that won’t sit in the corner and behave!
. . . .
The band that defyies categorization by combining BeBop, Funk, Latin, Soul, Swing, Blues and Avante-Garde into one sizzling pot of Gumbo!
. . . .
The band that will groove you on the dance floor while it makes you go “Hmmm…”
. . . .
Expand your mind and shake your booty with Jazzooty!

Well, since then we’ve all gone our separate ways. But Nathan, Tom and I performed for 3 years in the award-winning Big Time Operator! Won several San Diego Music Awards and a Jim Croce Award.

I lost track of Chris Morante. But I still gig with both Nathan and Tom in various musical situations. I gig with Tom at the church playing Gospel music and Jazz. I still gig with Nathan in several musical situations around town.
