Some Helpful Tips on How to Quit Smoking
Are you a smoker trying to quit?
My father used to smoke every day. I was very sensitive to the smoke, but out of respect wouldn’t say anything, and tried to hide my coughs.
He developed high blood pressure and suffered a heart attack. I never tried smoking, though I was sometimes (reluctantly) a second-hand smoker. My Dad has since given up smoking and is living a much more healthier lifestyle.
Here’s a helpful site to help you stop smoking!
And it can be very difficult for someone who has been smoking for years to just drop the habit.
The site, MyQuitSmokingDiary.com, is a helpful site that outlines several methods to help one quit smoking:
- Medications to help you quit.
There are a couple of medications that can be used to help quit the smoking habit.Chantix (Varenicline) and Zyban (Buproprion) are pharmaceutical drugs that reduce the addictive effects of nicotine. And both drugs should be taken for several weeks in order for them to take effect.
Side effects, however, can occur. And the smoker trying to quit while using either Chantix or Zyban can experience anything from depression and suicidal thoughts to anger, irritability and hostility. And hallucinations can occur.
- Natural and Herbal Alternatives.
For those wishing to take a more homeopathic approach, there are many althernative remedies to help you stop smoking.
A couple of these include:
- Botanic Choice – a homeopathic formula in tablet form. It’s usually allowed to dissolve in the mouth. Helps reduce nicotine cravings. And contains all natural ingredients to help the body heal itself.
- NicRx – an herbal remedy that contains the herbs Lobelia and Passion Flower, and actually tricks the brain into thinking it has received nicotine.
About Lobelia – From Wikipedia.org
Native Americans used lobelia to treat respiratory and muscle disorders, and as a purgative. Today it is used to treat asthma and food poisoning, and is often used as part of smoking cessation programs. It is a physical relaxant, and can serve as a nerve depressant, easing tension and panic.
Passion Flower is a medicinal herb that helps against anxiety, depression and helps one to sleep. I can see how Lobelia and Passion Flower can work together to help someone quit smoking.
- Nicotine Replacement Therapy
And there are the more common methods to help one quit smoking which falls under the category of “nicotine replacement therapy”. These include: patches, chewing gum, lozenges, nasal spray and inhalers.
Hypnosis is probably another option that would fall under alternative treatments.
