The World Celebrates 40 Years of Sesame Street!

So, today we celebrate 40 years of Sesame Street. Like countless others, my generation grew up watching this children’s show, which first aired on November 10, 1969. Prior to this, using television as an educational tool for children was pretty much unheard of, but Sesame Street combined learning with fun and entertainment, and the rest is history.
Even as I grew up into my teens, I still watched Sesame Street for its entertainment value while my younger siblings watched it.
For the first several years on PBS, Sesame Street was the top children’s learning show and was unchallenged. Though there were a couple of others like Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood.
Of course, parents seemed to love it too, and educated them as well. I remember watching it with my children as they were growing up during their toddler years.
Later, Sesame Street found a rising tide of similar shows that entertained children as well as educated them and taught them values, like Barney and Friends and various children’s shows on cable television.
Buddy Rich Vs Animal
What I always enjoyed about Sesame Street are the muppets from Elmo to Ernie and Bert to the Cookie Monster and Big Bird. But I ‘ve always enjoyed this video clip of the legendary drummer Buddy Rich in a drum battle against Animal.
Ernie and Bert
I always liked muppet pals Ernie and Bert and their antics.
Everyone Knows This Song
And who can forget that memorable opening theme to the show that asks, “Can you me how to get… how to get to Sesame Street?”
