This week’s popular hits from Google…

A Raw Food Thanksgiving
I’m getting the most hits to an older Thanksgiving post from 2007, partly lamenting being the only “raw foodist” in my family and dealing with a bunch of meat eating relatives. But, I also share a few recipes courtesy of other raw foodists on the web.

If you’re searching for some Raw Food Thanksgiving recipes, check this post out, and if your looking for some morally support you’ve got that too.

susan_boyleSusan Boyle: “I Dreamed A Dream”
Susan Boyle’s debut album was released yesterday. It broke the record as having the most pre-sale orders from Amazon.com, beating out all The Beatles’ remastered albums plus Whitney Houston’s album marking her comeback.

The Five Remembrances
One of the most profound of Buddhist Teachings, the Five Remembrances (or Upajjhatthana Sutta (“Subjects for Contemplation”)).

a Buddhist discourse (Pali: sutta; Skt.: sutra) famous for its inclusion of five remembrances, five facts regarding life’s fragility and our true inheritance. The discourse advises that these facts are to be reflected upon often by all.

According to this discourse, contemplation of these facts leads to the abandonment of destructive attachments and actions and to the cultivation of factors necessary for Enlightenment. According to a related canonical discourse, the first three remembrances are the very insights that led Gautama Buddha to renounce his royal household status and become an ascetic.

rbjRBJ: Home is Where the Virtual Heart Is…
My random thoughts celebrating 9 years of Rice Bowl Journals, the community site celebrating Asian culture and blogging.

The site has gone through so many trials and tribulations, but is still active today. An alternative home for the RBJ posse when not on Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. The community has retained its small sense of community, and we’ve literally watched members grow up, graduate from college, get married, find successful careers, and become parents and raise families.

After 9 years, a lot can happen. RBJ has succeeded where other major community sites have failed, in creating an online family and a sense of a close-knit community spirit.

filipinosAre Filipinos Asian?
The debate will probably go on and on forever on the web, and the truth is, Filipinos are a diverse and unique people with roots originating from Asia and Europe, and influences from Malaysia, China, Spain and the United States.

Filipinos may claim they are Asian, or Pacific Islander, or a little of both. An thus the debate continues to be the most popular topic here at the Zen Garden.

Thanksgiving Week

As I reflect on how the year has progressed so far, I contemplate, and give thanks to all my friends both online and offline, to the musicians who are my colleagues, who appreciate my talents and worth as a professional musician.

And I express my gratitude and appreciation to my family for being an important part of my life. May we give thanks and celebrate the beauty of love and life.
