Thanksgiving Day Thoughts…

I’m posting a series of photos from the garden because, well… the garden isn’t looking like this anymore. Why? Because of the drought situations in California, and residents being forced to only water on certain days (and reduce the amount of water used)… the garden suffers.
Anyway, a situation had come up in real life, and it does cause one to ponder deeply about this, because it’s a situation in which I think we all experience from time-to-time.
That, of having to socialize with people during the holidays who cause you serious grief and disharmony.
Just because it’s Thanksgiving, or Christmas, or whatever holiday presents itself in which people get together. I think, it shouldn’t matter who they are, whether they are relatives or people you are forced to get together with, it’s just wise to stay away and not come into contact with that person (or persons).
For me, there is one person that causes me so much grief and upsets me, just by his presence. He’s not a very nice person and many times he has become violent (both physically and emotionally) toward my family.
Now, the best thing in a situation like this is to ignore this person, especially during holiday season where one gets together with family and loved ones. If there is someone who, only by marriage, is a very hateful and vicious human being, then there is no reason to get together with this person.
It’s not to say I’m not a forgiving person.
I forgive people for whatever misdeeds they have done toward me. It’s always best to let that stuff go but try to find peace with it.
The Dalai Lama says in one of his books that, when it comes to enemies and people who cause you much pain, it is best to steer clear of them. Don’t hate them, and do forgive them of their actions. They are human and are probably suffering, but it’s just wise to avoid them. Especially if there is no mutual respect or affection.
There is a point in which you must look out for your own well-being, so that you can channel that goodness to the ones you truly love. Otherwise, you’d become a jaded, bitter person.
And I try to turn all that negativity into something good, and channel it through my music when I play piano and drums. Then, you have utilized some emotion positively, harnessing it to do good by creating.
So, that is my focus for today. To avoid those people who cause me suffering and pain. Because, naturally, that is what we all are doing in life… to free ourselves from pain and suffering, to seek an enlightened state of being, so we can become closer to the infinite or divine. To achieve happiness in a positive way, and not at the expense of others.
So, Happy Thanksgiving to all, and may you have a peaceful and wonderful day.
