Blogging in Santa Rosa

bloggingSo, I’m back home now.

A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I spent 5 days in the Bay Area, specifically in Santa Rosa. She had an important conference in which she was president and chairperson. I came along to provide moral support and figured I could blog and work online from the hotel room, and when my wife was off we could dine out and tour the wine country.

Of course, we did take in the sights and sounds of the city. Although, to me, Santa Rosa feels more akin to a small but quaint town.

San Francisco to Santa Rosa

I liked being in Santa Rosa. To me it had a small town feel, and everything was a bit more greener than the desert climate and terrain I was used to back home in San Diego.

Of course, in Santa Rosa you’re pretty much in the Wine Country of Sonoma and Napa Valleys.

We spent some time driving through Sonoma County. That was all we had time for, and we stopped at a few Wineries where I sampled some of the wines. My wife doesn’t drink wine, and I myself am not a big wine drinker. But, I did do some wine tasting.

Santa Rosa

Santa Rosa IS a place surrounded by vineyards and wineries, is the county seat of Sonoma County, and a place that was the home of Peanuts cartoonist Charles Schulz.

It was nice just to get out of San Diego for a change. I don’t really go out of town much, nowadays. So, this was a good opportunity for me to check out some new places.

The last time I was out of San Diego was back in June of 2008 in the Philippines when my father-in-law passed away.

My next planned out-of-town trip is next May 2010 in Boston to attend a graduation.

Sometimes I tend to feel out-of-touch, as it seems everyone is traveling despite the bad economy. But perhaps it just always seems like everyone is traveling when compared to oneself. Well, I just wished I was more travel worthy.

But at the same time, I like being home.
