2010: The Hope and Determination of a New Year…

My personal theme for this year is Hope and Determination…

Below is a photo of the sunrise in front of my house a couple of days ago, taken when my youngest son and I were getting ready to jump into the car to go to school. It looks like the sky is on fire, no?

The Nature of the Universe

Lately, I’ve been focusing on the nature of the universe…

In the vastness of time and space, I ponder over the stars and the galaxies, and I am in complete awe of having been a witness to the wonders of what surrounds us.

With the latest technology, astronomers and astro-physicists are able to look farther into the deep fields of space and capture images of greater clarity and colour. The Hubble Telescope is now capturing incredible images of far away stars, galaxies and nebulae.

One of Countless Stars in the Sky

If our sun is just one of countless stars in the sky, is there no doubt that there must be more solar systems out there with lifeforms, though they might be billions of light years away?

Well, I like to ponder these thoughts, and though we might be just a spec of life on some remote planet in some distant galaxy, we are blessed to be alive and a witness to what is unfolding around us.

The universe is vast and infinite. We must all look up at the stars and appreciate the beauty and nature that surrounds us.

Life is more than what we are. We are more than this life.

Naturally, we are the children of the universe, made from stardust…

Putting The Past Behind Us…

So, typically we think in terms of putting the past behind us… the year that has passed, and we start anew at the beginning of a new year.

For me, the past two years seem to have been trying years… years full of uncertainty and struggle, of loss and overcoming obstacles.

In the end, I got through those past two years and have learned from them. Sometimes, obstacles and struggles can impart wisdom just the same. And we learn something of profound value.

In our life’s journey we all seek… the way. We are no different than anyone else, though we may seek success and happiness through travel, material things, the companionship of others… we all essentially seek a true path…

But being able to rise above our fears, our trials and tribulations, seems to be the key to life. Continue in the struggle. Continue in the journey. Meditate and reflect. But continue with your life’s plan.

Find the path that has a heart…
