WordPress Shakedown: Conflicting Problems Between Jetpack and ShareThis

I recently installed and activated the Jetpack plugin for WordPress, only to find that it made my Social Media buttons disappear!

Here’s what happened…

After installing Jetpack and activating the Sharing feature, I noticed that my Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Pinterest buttons were missing from the top of the post. I had grabbed the code from the ShareThis website, so I had manually installed it.

After checking the Header and Single Post files within WordPress, I noticed that the code was still there, but something must’ve rendered it invisible.

Only after a bit of deductive reasoning, I realized that Jetpack was the last plugin installed (so it must’ve been causing some problems), and sure enough a quick search around the Web proved that others had experienced the same thing.

So, I deactivated and deleted Jetpack. But, the problem didn’t go away!

I did several attempts to try to get the Social Media buttons to show again. And it seemed futile.

I thought, why not try installing the ShareThis plugin, and sure enough, the buttons were visible again.

I thought, why not try installing the ShareThis plugin, and sure enough, the buttons were visible again.

The thing is, I left the code where it was, and just installed and activated the ShareThis plugin. And I suppose for some reason, it recognized and used the ShareThis code already in place.

While Jetpack is a huge plugin filled with all sorts of features, I was only using it to automatically send my newly published posts to Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, automatically.

I will just have to find another plugin that will do that job. But for now, I’m staying clear of Jetpack!
