Zen and the Art of New Year’s Resolutions

The answer seems simple enough.

Make a list of resolutions at the beginning of the the New Year and make an effort to fulfill them.

The problem is that you tend to lose the motivation to continue as the weeks progress.

Other things might get in our way.

Then we begin to make excuses not to do them. Like, telling yourself you are too busy to go for a walk or hit the gym.

Then you fall back into your old habits.

The key…

Meditation.

Make one resolution to meditate, starting for 10 minutes a day, which is easy to do.

Make sure you set aside 10 minutes of quiet time, either at the beginning of the day or at the end of the day.

The idea is to control the mind with slow deep breathing.

Calm the mind. Control the mind.

When we have no control of our mind and are helplessly reacting to the world around us and going by impulse control, the conditions are such that we lose control and have problems fulfilling our goals and resolutions.

Meditate. Breathe. Calm the mind.

You will find yourself in a better place.

Your mind will be calm like a clear, waveless lake.

Meditate 10 minutes daily, and you will have changed your mind and attitude for the better.

Don’t set unattainable goals.

Understand the balance and harmony of Life.

The Yin and Yang.

First goal: Meditate

Second goal: Achieve balance and harmony

Whatever goals beyond this, take them slowly and working on them daily, and avoid tipping the scales and losing balance and harmony.

Achieve balance and harmony and everything should fall into place.

Begin today.

Then make a commitment to do it every day.

Meditate.

Calm the mind. Control the mind.

To achieve balance and harmony.

Meditate.
