I’ve been trying to get some focus for the start of the year.

For me it’s been a tough start, getting sick. I’m about 98% back now and feeling pretty good. I’ve been eating a super healthy, clean vegan diet so far. And that’s been great.

And I’m committed to eating more raw fruits and vegetables, and going easy on the grains like brown rice. But I want to explore more alternate grains like quinoa, millet and dark rye.

Health-wise, I’m keeping track of every calorie on Cron-o-meter and I did this for most of last year. It’s become an enlightening habit because I’m seeing exactly what nutrients I’m getting and how many calories I’ve been using up each day.

I’ve been getting back to the gardening with more of a passion, ever since the rains stopped and I’m cleaning up all the overgrowth and debris from the El Niño storms. The weather is nice today in San Diego and I’m going to be doing a LOT of gardening today, as there is much to get caught up on.

As for gigs, it’s been very slow at the start of this year. So, if you know anyone who needs a drummer for standards and jazz music, give me a call.

I’ve been woodshedding again on piano and drums. It’s an ongoing process but I have my own goals, like getting my chops up on the drums, and practicing some new Bach inventions and maybe a sinfonia. And get back up to speed on playing some Scott Joplin.

More on the gardening later, as I begin again to document the progress in the garden and what I’m doing with the music practice. I’m also going to clean and overhaul my jazz drum set.

And hopefully, get a new ride to go to gigs in, but I need more gigs this year. Like I said, suddenly it has been slow.

Okay, more later… I’m out.
