This post is a collection of random musings on the Fourth of July.
As I ponder over my thoughts for today on July 4th, I’m not so much reminded of the patriotism for our nation as I am thinking about all the friends I have made online scattered in countries all over the world.
The more I think about America and what it stands for, I think about the big melting pot that it has been for more than a century.
The thing about America is that it’s progressive. Its corporations and political leaders are leading the way to a brighter future, but they need to take responsibility for their country and the world. They need to lead by example.
Apple, Inc. and Exxon Mobil are two of the very biggest and most valued corporations in the world. They too need to take responsibility and look at the bigger picture.
As far as the average American is concerned, and that includes me… we need to step up and be more compassionate toward our fellow Americans, regardless of color, sexual orientation, religious or political leanings.
The United States of America is, no doubt, a great nation, and a leader of the FREE world. As patriotic as I’m feeling today, the U.S. is not without its faults. But, you take the good with the bad and overall I believe that Americans are good people with strong values of family, civic duty and responsibility toward our fellow human beings and the world.
We need to be aware of that, and realize that if we are to walk that path, we need to truly lead the way to a brighter tomorrow.
And I haven’t forgotten our troops, which I very much support. These are our fellow Americans who are willing to sacrifice and give up their lives for the freedoms that we now enjoy. I support them enough that we need to be responsible for them and their well-being, as their lives might be greatly affected by the horrors of War. They need to be told that we support them even when they come home damaged and afflicted with post traumatic stress disorder, when they are feeling worthless and suicidal.
We need to say that we support our troops enough to bring them home in one piece. For their families and loved ones.
America the Beautiful is the ideal nation that we are all drawn to, but in a world that has quickly lost its borders in cyberspace… in a world that is vast with information and globally interconnected, in a world where more problematic nations are revolting and longing for an ideal that is similar to ours… we need to continue to pave the way for positive change.
Let us remind ourselves that we are a nation founded on revolution… change. I would rather we as a nation continue to change by peaceful means, with a revolution of the mind, body and spirit. We set the example. We need to take the initiative. We need to think smarter and continue to work toward more globally peaceful solutions to the problems that we face.
May God Bless the United States of America on its Independence Day, and may we continue to strive for World Peace. We are all globally connected in this vast information and technological era.
