9 Quick Ideas For A Frugal Saturday

The following are just some quick ideas for doing something frugal on a Saturday.

Let’s see, in San Diego the price of gasoline is hovering around $4 a gallon. That’s reason enough to think frugally for a change and doing something that will save you a bit of money, and maybe help the environment or someone in need.

Here’s my list of 9 frugal things you can do on a Saturday to save a bit of money.

Recycle Those Bottles and Cans

Saturday mornings are good for recycling any plastic bottles or aluminum cans you might have lying around the garage.

Hold a Garage Sale or Yard Sale

Of course, you might need a few days preparation for a large garage sale, but you can also put one or two items out on the driveway for sale. The idea is to sell things you don’t need for cash, while cleaning out the garage.

Take Old Clothes To Goodwill

There’s always a Goodwill Location near you, which is always a good place to donate old clothes and old computer equipment.

Go To The Library

Saturday is a good day to make a trip to the library, either to hang out and read the magazines or use the FREE Wi-Fi. It’s also a good idea to borrow books, CDs, DVDs and Audio Books for FREE.

Go On A Nature Hike

These days, there are many hiking trails in and around the city. You just have to do your research and find them through Parks & Recreation sites. Make sure you bring lots of water, a first aid kit, a whistle and other hiking essentials (See: Hiking Gear – 12 Essentials, and Stuff That’s Nice to Have)

Go To The Movies in the Morning

Usually, the first and second showings are discounted, so you’ll save some money. But check your local theater listings for the details.

Walk or Jog Around The Neighborhood

This is the most economical because you don’t have to drive to a special location. Just head out the front door and take the dogs for a walk, or calculate a route to go jogging.

Do Some Coupon Hunting

You can go online and look for coupons to printout. You can look for coupons in your supermarket’s iPhone App. Check your mail for coupons and special store sales. Organize all these coupons for your weekend shopping trip.

Make a Trip to the Farmer’s Market

You might find some good deals on organic produce, nuts and seeds. Or buy a bunch of flowers for a good price. Of course, lots of great deals can be found at the local Farmer’s Market, plus it’s a great way to spend a Saturday morning.
